Maren Morris discusses bisexuality and her new queer anthem Push Me Over: 'I wanted to celebrate it'

As I delve deeper into the captivating world of music and its vibrant personalities, I find myself utterly mesmerized by Maren Morris, a beacon of courage, talent, and unapologetic spirit. Her journey from the heart of Texas to the global stage is nothing short of inspiring, and her dedication to advocacy for the LGBTQAI community truly sets her apart.

Maren Morris recently shared the reasons behind her decision to announce her bisexuality on June 9, which coincided with LGBTQAI Pride month.

In an interview with Sophia Bush on her podcast, Work in Progress, the 34-year-old Grammy winner shared that it was a fact about themselves that they had always been aware of.

‘I dislike the chaos and felt an impulse to revel in it. For my personal satisfaction, I wanted everything exposed. In essence, those are aspects that should be upfront for me. You do you, but for me, it felt like, “My life is now out in the open, I’m no longer hiding any part of myself.” So, it was a genuine expression of joy and openness.’

Maren, who officially ended her marriage with the country singer Ryan Hurd in January, casually mentioned that she hasn’t had romantic relationships with women before, even though she experienced such feelings as early as the age of eight.

In a similar vein as someone who has never been in a relationship before, I’m likely to be dating publicly for the first time, according to Morris.

I prefer to accomplish that task free from any potential negative influence or manipulation by the media, journalists, bloggers, or similar sources.

Instead of formally announcing through a press release, the performer with 3.9 million social media followers decided to express herself in a casual manner on Instagram. Her message read, ‘Proud to represent the “B” in LGBTQ+, Happy Pride!’

On the 2nd of August, I was thrilled to find that Columbia had released Maren’s five-track EP titled “Intermission,” showcasing a powerful song known as “Push Me Over,” which serves as a rallying cry for the LGBTQ+ community.

Morris sings, “Could you guide me? Lead the way, I’ve never been here before, the atmosphere is unfamiliar yet appealing to me. I yearn for your presence in my bedroom, not for friendship, but something more intimate.”

‘Caught in between, make up your mind and take action / For even a brief moment tonight / You guided me through to the other side / Yet, were you the one who moved me, or was it me? / In any case, I must confess with clarity.’

The artist who sings “Kiss the Sky” is renowned for her warm affection towards her female friends, as evidenced by a photo taken on April 23rd, in which she is seen sharing a loving kiss with photographer Sonya Jasinski while they embraced with their arms around each other.

On the joyful 17th of April, Maren playfully embraced her now co-author and former BFF Karina Argow in a celebratory photo, marking their achievement as New York Times bestselling authors for their children’s book titled “Addie Ant Goes On an Adventure.”

Since 2022, Morris has been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQAI community, working closely with GLAAD and even fulfilling guest judging roles on the highly acclaimed reality show “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in 2023.

Previously, a young adult originally from Texas showcased their talent at the Love Rising event in Nashville, which stood against Tennessee laws targeting cross-dressing artists, transgender youth, and same-sex unions.

Maren even brought her four-year-old son Hayes Andrew Hurd to the ‘completely family-friendly’ drag show where she declared onstage the Bridgestone Arena: ‘Yes, I introduced my son to some drag queens today, so Tennessee, f***ing arrest me.’

It’s said that Morris allegedly gives her 37-year-old former spouse a monthly payment of $2,100 for child support, following their separation on October 2nd after five years of wedlock.

In the year 2013, the singers known as “Because, Of Course” and Ryan first crossed paths during their collaboration on country artist Tim McGraw’s song “Last Turn Home,” which was released in 2014. Notably, they had a prenuptial agreement before their relationship began.

On the upcoming weekend, it’s Maren – boasting a massive following of 12.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify – who will be gracing the stage at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York.
