Maren Morris celebrates major milestone after coming out and calling out ‘toxic’ country music community

Maren Morris has celebrated her first-ever Pride since officially coming out as bisexual.

According to a video obtained solely by DailyMail.com, Morris expressed joy over the achievement during her set at the Outloud Music Festival last week.

As Maren Morris, I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that this is my inaugural Pride celebration! The energy and enthusiasm from this magnificent crowd has me beaming with joy!

35-year-old Morris publicly identified as bisexual in June, sharing with her Instagram audience that she’s proudly part of the LGBTQ+ community and expressed her joy for Pride!

On a Friday, the country artist served as a headline act, initiating Pride Month celebrations at the Outloud Festival, a music event centered in West Hollywood, dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community.

Morris continued to revel in the moment with behind-the-scenes snaps from her epic show.

She posted on Instagram over the weekend, saying “I’m celebrating my first Pride since coming out last summer, and @wehopride welcomed me with open arms! Happy Pride Month!

Supporters lauded Morris in their comments, expressing gratitude for the lasting, positive influence she’s had on their families.

‘Thank you for making my kiddo feel comfortable in their true selves,’ one posted.

‘I didn’t know you came out! Loved you before & love you now even more!’ another wrote.

‘Welcome to the fam!!’ another gushed.

Lance Bass chimed in as well: ‘Loved it!’ he raved.

Previously, Morris was wedded to country singer Ryan Hurd, and they have a five-year-old son named Hayes Andrew Hurd as their shared offspring.

Recently, the lead vocalist of The Girl band openly admitted that she had long recognized her attraction towards both males and females. However, she chose to keep this aspect of her life private until now.

She confided in The Zoe Report recently that she’s drawn to both men and women. She explained that since her life has been dominated by her music career and residing in Nashville for the past 15 years, which included being in straight relationships, she never felt bold enough to discuss it openly before.

In June 2024, however, she finally overcame that fear.

She expressed, “I realized I no longer wished to keep that aspect of myself hidden. I desired a deeper connection with my followers and the LGBTQ+ community. Given the current post-divorce period, which feels like a free-for-all, community has become indispensable and even life-saving for me. Authenticity and vulnerability are the keys to finding that sense of belonging.

Maren made a significant discovery about herself more than a year following her announcement that she was departing from the ‘harmful’ realm of country music.

In the realm of personal insights I shared on the New York Times’ Popcast podcast last September, I expressed that I often find myself taking on the challenging task of understanding and even laughing off others’ less-than-ideal actions. As a lifestyle enthusiast, I strive to navigate the complexities of human behavior with grace and empathy.

The songwriter remarked, “Given the events of 2020, I found it impossible to continue as before. My circumstances have significantly altered, and I underwent a great deal of personal change that year.

She expressed that it was difficult for her to part ways, but she could no longer endure the harmful and unhealthy aspects of this organization.

She additionally shared with the Los Angeles Times, “I contemplated setting it ablaze and beginning anew. However, it’s already self-destructing without my intervention.

However, in a recent interview with The Guardian, it has been made clear by Maren that she never indicated she was departing from country music.

Maren labeled the title of the Los Angeles Times piece, originally titled “Maren Morris is leaving country music: ‘I’ve run out of things to say'”, as “quite regrettable.

She assured the publication that she doesn’t intend to abandon country music, as it’s deeply rooted within her feelings. “You’ll find country tunes on this album,” she explained, emphasizing that removing those elements would strip away the authentic sound of who she is, since it’s a part of her very being and songwriting style.

She stated that the article generated an excessive amount of unwarranted drama within the community towards her since she was already somewhat isolated. However, she is not retracting her statements; she simply didn’t make certain ones.

The singer, living in Nashville for 12 years, stated, “I won’t let any dispute force me to move.

Despite switching between different record labels, leaving the country radio scene, and not submitting her songs for consideration at the Country Music Awards or the Academy of Country Music Awards, the singer continues to collaborate with the same group of individuals.

She clarified, “It seems unusual to say, ‘This music no longer represents me,’ but it doesn’t mean I’m devaluing the music I’ve previously released. It’s just that this new style isn’t a reflection of who I am now.

She mentioned, “The supporters I’ve gained and the groups they’ve created among themselves due to their love for my music mean a great deal to me. Therefore, it would be incredibly thoughtless and foolish of me to say, ‘I’m abandoning you’, something I could never do.

About her latest album “Dreamsicle”, the singer stated: “Take a closer listen, and you’ll see there’s nothing held back.
