Many Star Trek fans aren’t happy with the Section 31 teaser trailer
As a seasoned Star Trek fan who’s been following the franchise since I was a kid, I must admit that I found myself torn upon seeing the first look teaser trailer for Section 31 at SDCC. On one hand, I was excited to see Michelle Yeoh taking on such an iconic role, and the premise of Section 31 has always intrigued me. However, as someone who values continuity and authenticity within the Star Trek universe, I found myself struggling with some aspects of the trailer.
1. At San Diego Comic-Con, the initial sneak peek trailer for Section 31, featuring Michelle Yeoh, was unveiled, and while some fans found it deliciously appealing, there are numerous others who have announced they won’t catch the movie based solely on the trailer.
1. While it’s challenging for the Star Trek series to cater to everyone’s preferences, some devotees have expressed dissatisfaction that the creative team appears to be neglecting their expectations. The preview for Section 31, in particular, received widespread criticism, but a significant segment of fans found issue with the soundtrack, as it featured a heavy rock rhythm instead of the usual orchestral score seen in other Star Trek films.
Fans have expressed their disapproval of the trailer, but some are also questioning how a new Star Trek series, Section 31, could be developed when there hasn’t been a fourth movie in J.J. Abrams’ Kelvin timeline yet. Others label it “awful” without providing reasons, while some compare it unfavorably to “Guardians of the Galaxy,” implying that Michelle Yeoh’s abilities will go underutilized.
1. This film might revolutionize several other Star Trek ventures. If it thrives, it could pave the way for Star Trek: Legacy and a follow-up movie based on Section 31. But, if it fails, Paramount+ may suffer financial losses that could halt future Star Trek productions until those losses are covered…assuming they can be covered.
As a long-time fan of Star Trek and a lover of thought-provoking storytelling, I understand the excitement and anticipation that comes with a new addition to the franchise. But as someone who has been disappointed before by trailers that didn’t live up to the hype, I can also empathize with the hesitance to trust the latest offering based on a less-than-impressive trailer. However, I believe we fans should take a deep breath and remember the talented minds behind Section 31.
