Mando movie: Is it a wrap? Dave Filoni hints principal photography is complete
As a seasoned Star Wars gamer with decades of galactic adventures under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming cinematic spectacle that is “The Mandalorian and Grogu”. Having witnessed the evolution of this franchise since its humble beginnings, I’ve grown fond of these characters like a Wookiee to a lightsaber.
On December 3, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau attended the premiere of “Skeleton Crew” in Los Angeles.
The pair has much excitement ahead in the approaching years, as they are in charge of multiple forthcoming Star Wars productions, including notably “The Mandalorian and The Child” (Grogu). For the first time on the big screen since “The Rise of Skywalker” was released in 2019, “The Mandalorian and The Child” will initiate the Star Wars saga.
In Star Wars news, Dave Filoni discusses wrapping up the filming of “The Mandalorian and Grogu” and watching Grogu rise to stardom! Here’s a link to the full interview if you’d like to read more: [Link] ☺️

Based on an interview Filoni gave at the premiere with ExtraTV, it seems that the wrapping up of the much-anticipated project may be complete. While ExtraTV didn’t explicitly ask if filming had ended, they hinted at it, and Filoni replied affirmatively with a “Yeah,” suggesting that the project might have been fully filmed.
Filoni has not disclosed an exact wrap date, but given that filming for the movie began around June or July last year, it’s likely they are nearing completion as we approach the six-month mark.
When inquired about offering a sneak peek regarding the film, Filoni stated he couldn’t disclose anything: “I can’t say a thing, not a word, but I am just as eager as you are about it. Working with Jon was fantastic, as always, and we had a wonderful time doing it. It was great to see Grogu again. He’s truly shining now.” Filoni shared that the pleasure of working with Grogu in this movie exceeded his expectations compared to Season 1 of The Mandalorian due to advancements in puppeteering since then. Moreover, he mentioned that he collaborated closely with Legacy Effects on perfecting the puppetry aspect for the film.
For the first time since “The Mandalorian” Season 3 ended in April 2023, fans will see the pairing of Din Djarin and Grogu again. The anticipation among fans is high, with some hoping for appearances by these characters in the upcoming series titled “Skeleton Crew,” which shares the same timeline. Following a deal struck with Carson Teva at the end of Season 3, Din Djarin will now work as a freelancer, hunting down Imperial remnants on an assignment-by-assignment basis for the New Republic. As of now, Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver are the only confirmed cast members.
Just as anticipated, Filoni remained tight-lipped about the film’s plot details, but full credit is due to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for maintaining secrecy to prevent any leaks. According to all reports, everything is running smoothly, without any production delays. This is a positive indication for Star Wars fans, ensuring that the movie is on target for its 2026 premiere.
It’s likely that we’ll see the initial sneak peek of Din and Grogu’s movie escapades on the big screen next year. (or) We might be treated to a first glimpse of Din and Grogu’s cinematic journey next year.
The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres in theaters on May 22, 2026.
