Mandalorian movie will stick to formula that made series a worldwide phenomenon

In approximately a year, the highly-anticipated movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu will hit theaters, leaving fans with minimal details about the storyline as an official trailer has yet to be released. However, recent insights have been shared by Brendan Wayne, who portrayed Mando’s body double, offering some hints regarding what enthusiasts might encounter in the film.

Wayne expresses that our fondness for storytelling stems from “The Mandalorian.” We spend a significant amount of time with both the child and Mando, and their adventure takes center stage.

According to many fans’ expectations following the conclusion of The Mandalorian Season 3, Din Djarin and Grogu were depicted leaving Mandalore and establishing a new home on Nevarro. Initially, some may have assumed this marked the end of their story, but it turned out to be merely the close of one chapter in their lives. With Grogu now officially adopted by his Mandalorian father, they’ve formed an official family unit.

After everyone regarded Din and Grogu as father and son during the final episode of the show, officially forming ‘Clan of Two’ allows them to embark on a fresh journey together. The finale provided them with a well-earned rest before embarking on another adventure. There are whispers that Disney might approve a Mandalorian trilogy if the upcoming film performs well. If this happens, it seems sensible for the film to stick with the successful formula of the show.

In Season 1 of “The Mandalorian”, Din Djarin and Grogu were the main focus more than any other season. However, Season 2 broadens the storyline by introducing guest appearances from Bo-Katan Kryze, Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, and even Luke Skywalker. If you’re a fan of the show’s distinctive style, the upcoming film promises to deliver more of what you love, emphasizing Din Djarin and Grogu’s heartwarming bond.

During Star Wars Celebration in Japan, Jon Favreau confirmed that the IMAX experience will significantly heighten the emphasis on Din and Grogu in “The Mandalorian.” He shared that certain space scenes were specifically tailored for IMAX screens, with larger sets and even a full-scale AT-AT walker. Favreau mentioned his long-held desire to offer fans a more immersive visual experience, but the limitations of TV production held him back until now.

With a bigger financial backing and additional time for editing, “The Mandalorian and Grogu” could surpass what made the show a huge hit, while also realizing an even more ambitious vision. Since Disney moved “Avengers: Doomsday” from May 2026 to December 2026, next May will undoubtedly be dominated by Star Wars, as it truly deserves to be.

We’re hoping that the initial trailer for “The Mandalorian and Grogu” will be unveiled at D23, which is scheduled for next month in Orlando, Florida.

The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres May 22, 2026.
