Man on the Inside Co-Stars Ted Danson and Stephanie Beatriz on Their Memorable ‘Firsts’

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for comedies and a soft spot for heartfelt narratives, I find myself captivated by Michael Schur’s latest creation, “A Man on the Inside,” premiering on Netflix Nov 21. With an ensemble cast that includes Ted Danson, Stephanie Beatriz, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Lilah Richcreek Estrada, this series promises a delightful blend of humor, mystery, and emotional depth.

As a seasoned movie critic, I’ve long admired Michael Schur’s touch on TV comedies, from the heartwarming “Parks and Recreation” to the thought-provoking “The Good Place”, not forgetting the hilarious antics of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”. His latest creation, “A Man on the Inside”, premiering on Netflix November 21st, brings together two stars from these shows – Ted Danson and Stephanie Beatriz. This ensemble also includes talent like Mary Elizabeth Ellis (from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and Lilah Richcreek Estrada (of “Chicago Med”). In this story, Danson’s character, Charles, a widower, finds himself battling retirement blues in a San Francisco retirement home. To keep his spirits up, he embarks on an intriguing mystery that can only be unraveled by someone with the unique access to Pacific View Retirement Residence. Beatriz, as Didi, oversees the day-to-day operations at this very same retirement home. The series takes cues from the 2020 Oscar-nominated documentary “The Mole Agent”, set in a retirement home in Chile.

Davis and Briza reminisced about significant milestones during their chat with TIME – from their initial encounter, to the moment each of them cracked a screen mystery for the first time, and lastly, when they both felt they truly established themselves within the entertainment world.
