Mamma Mia! Why Celia had to stand for two and a half hours on a train: RICHARD EDEN’S DIARY

One of the standout actresses from our team, she’s a common sight on the big screen thanks to her performances in movies such as Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Calendar Girls, and Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

Last month, it was fitting that Celia Imrie was chosen to lead the 80th anniversary VJ Day tribute, which took place in the company of King Charles and Queen Camilla, at the Armed Forces Memorial in Alrewas, Staffordshire.

Currently, the celebrated 73-year-old individual has shared that her train ride lasting approximately 2.5 hours back to London was uncomfortable as no one among the younger passengers offered her a seat during the entire journey.

Imrie, the actress portraying pensioner-detective Joyce Meadowcroft in Netflix movie ‘The Thursday Murder Club’, has chosen to voice her thoughts on the underappreciated value of seniors in modern society.

She mentions that the extraordinary VJ Day celebration took place in Staffordshire, quite a distance from London by train. Surprisingly, she didn’t complain often, but found herself standing for two and a half hours on the long journey because no one offered their seat. Remarkably, nobody seemed to notice or care.

The award-winning Olivier actor comments: ‘If you’re wondering if people seem to overlook you as you age, yes, I have noticed that too. Just strolling down the street, it seems like I’m not seen. It feels quite peculiar. To stand out, I often wear a vibrant coat.’

It’s clear that Imrie is highly respected among her colleagues. Notably, she recently achieved a historic milestone when she was chosen as one of the first female members of the Garrick in London’s club scene earlier this year.

Previously, news outlets reported that Imrie came into the spotlight after it was revealed that she entered into a deal with a male acquaintance to conceive a child together. He was expected to relinquish all parental rights afterwards.

It emerged later that the man involved was none other than Benjamin Whitrow, a co-actor of hers, who passed away in 2017 at the age of 80. The couple’s son, Angus (now 30 years old), currently plays Josh Archer in a popular Radio 4 serial drama.

It is reported that Queen Elizabeth may have been upset when Prince Harry named his daughter after her personal nickname, ‘Lilibet’. Now, one can imagine how she might feel about this news: A restaurant named Lilibet’s is set to open at her birthplace, 17 Bruton Street in Mayfair. As the former Nobu executive chef Ross Shonhan explains, “This address holds an unexpected history, which gave us the freedom to be creative.” Lilibet’s will be a seafood restaurant that celebrates British ingredients while incorporating flavors from various other regions.

Royal gift is Kate’s crowning glory

During the King’s coronation at Westminster Abbey in 2023, there were no tiaras present. However, a tiara was prominently featured at the recent wedding of his relative over the weekend.

Kate Morgan, aged 32, who is a descendant of the founder of Morgan Motor Company, donned the Fife fringe diamond tiara during her marriage ceremony with Lord Hugh Carnegie, also 32 and son of the Duke of Fife – a third cousin to the King – at Kinnaird Castle. This tiara was originally presented to Princess Louise of Wales for her wedding with the 1st Duke of Fife in 1889.

Guests at the wedding included Lady Marina Windsor, the Duke of Kent’s granddaughter.

Sir Simon Jenkins, former chairman of National Trust, expresses concern about an impending loss to modern British art. He’s dismayed that Sotheby’s is planning to auction off Pauline Karpidas’ surrealist art collection, housed in her Bayswater apartment and valued at up to £60 million. Jenkins laments the inevitable separation of the art from its home, urging a solution to preserve both the art and its location.

Radio 2 welcomes new listener: Prince William

Evidence suggesting the Prince of Wales is entering middle age could be seen in his new preference for BBC Radio 2, as the future king recently turned 43 years old.

According to DJ Scott Mills, it’s been reported that William has changed from Radio 1, as mentioned during Scott’s Radio 2 breakfast show in June. In this broadcast, a recording by the prince was played, where he emphasized the Earthshot Prize, his international environmental award.

In 2017, when William was on Radio 1 with his wife Catherine, he joked that he might be a bit too old for their station and should be moving to Radio 2, but he’s still sticking around.

He also confessed to sending anonymous texts to Radio 1. Interestingly, Mills, a former host on the youth-oriented station, shares with me that he was a frequent texter and would often send messages, though not necessarily praising the HRH.

In an unexpected turn of events, I received a text message from an unknown number. Despite not recognizing the sender, they managed to engage me in our conversation flow effortlessly. Remarkably, this mystery texter even knew the regular phone number for our local radio station.

Slipper not a perfect fit? It’s a pizza cake for Lily

In her role as Cinderella, Lily James understands firsthand the significance of proper footwear fitting. It was only natural for her to adjust the laces on her sandal during a recent evening in Tuscany.

The actor previously known for his role in Downton Abbey, donning a stylish white summer dress with a deep neckline, recently enjoyed a vacation in Italy.

Upon gazing at the latest digital snapshot she shared, I found myself captivated by the sight of Lily artfully slicing a scrumptious pizza, all the while cradling a luscious bottle of red vino in her hand.

In a upcoming movie titled “Swiped,” the actress, hailing from Surrey and aged 36, takes on the role of Whitney Wolfe Herd, the innovative mind behind the popular dating apps Tinder and Bumble.

As an ardent supporter of personal privacy, I must confess that the world of online dating isn’t my cup of tea. I find myself yearning for seclusion, and joining a dating app somehow contradicts this longing for privacy. It’s like a paradox, isn’t it?

Born to the legendary musician David Bowie and supermodel Iman, Lexi Jones boasts an incredibly diverse lineage. At 24 years old, this artist expresses that having a multiracial background, however, has brought its own set of difficulties. ‘Experiencing multiple races can lead to identity conflicts, feeling compelled to identify with one group and then facing rejection no matter which side is chosen. It involves the struggle for belonging and acceptance, feelings of insignificance or irrelevance, and being objectified due to a perceived “ethnic” or “exotic” appearance.’
