Malta Gaming Authority unveils new self-assessment tool to help identify gambling problem

Malta’s gaming regulator launched a new resource to help people identify potential gambling problems and find help if they need it.

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has created a new online tool that lets people check their gambling habits and spot any potential problems before they get serious. This is part of the MGA’s wider work to protect players and make gambling safer.

This tool helps people think about their gambling habits by asking a series of questions. Depending on their answers, users receive personalized advice and links to helpful resources. It’s available in both English and Maltese, so it can be used by people locally and from other countries.

The tool, developed by the MGA, is designed to help people become aware of potential gambling problems early on, before they become serious. It works alongside other responsible gambling measures, such as self-exclusion programs and requirements for gambling companies to keep an eye on player behavior.

The tool was created after the Authority spoke with groups like Caritas Malta, Agenzija Sedqa, the OASI Foundation, and the Responsible Gaming Foundation during Safer Gambling Week. Their feedback was used to improve the questionnaire and make sure it works well for everyone.

Responsible gaming agenda for 2025

The MGA recently announced its plans for regulating the industry in 2025. These updates will improve how they monitor companies and work more closely with those who are licensed.

This new self-assessment tool demonstrates the Authority’s dedication to being open, accountable, and actively protecting players. It also supports the Authority’s overall plan to build preventative measures and early support systems into how it regulates the industry.

As a fan of seeing things done right, I’m really encouraged by what the MGA is planning! They’re going to keep working with everyone involved – the gambling companies and groups that help people – to make even more resources available for responsible gambling. Plus, they’re looking into some cool new tech and using data to help us players stay informed and in control of our betting. They’ve even launched a self-assessment tool on their website, which is a great first step – I’m definitely checking that out!
