Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s daughter, 8, narrowly escaped drowning accident as horrifying details emerge

It’s been verified that Malcolm-Jamal Warner tragically drowned while swimming with his young eight-year-old girl during their holiday in Costa Rica, unfortunately by accident.

As reported by the police, surfers quickly intervened when they noticed that the late actor famous for playing Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, along with his daughter, were in trouble due to being swept away by a powerful current in the ocean.

Following their intervention, law enforcement shared with ABC News that one surfer employed his surfboard to escort Warner’s daughter to safety, while a volunteer lifeguard rescued Warner and another surfer from the water.

Warner, who died of asphyxia by submersion, was then given 45 minutes of CPR.

Regrettably, efforts to save him proved unsuccessful, and emergency responders declared him deceased on the spot. He was 54 years old.

On the shores of Cocles, a scenic beach in Limon, Costa Rica, the loving duo – father and daughter – were enjoying a leisurely swim before an unfortunate incident occurred.

The outlet noted that both surfers survived the harrowing ordeal on Sunday.

The Daily Mail has attempted to get a response from Warner’s representatives, but so far, they haven’t gotten back to us.

Before his death, Warner deliberately maintained a low profile for his daughter and spouse, only occasionally sharing glimpses of their lives on social media.

For privacy reasons, he chose not to publicly disclose his daughter or wife’s names.

This past week, I was absolutely thrilled to hear the news that a fellow enthusiast was fighting valiantly to protect one of my beloved actors from harm.

An agent from the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) disclosed that the Good Samaritan had gone into the water to assist Warner, who had been carried off by a strong ocean current.

According to reports, it’s been verified that the 35-year-old stranger, who had no prior relationship with the actor, happened to be on the beach when the actor encountered trouble.

As I took a refreshing dip at Playa Cocles in LimĂłn province, I found myself unexpectedly drawn further out to sea by a powerful undertow.

Emergency personnel from Costa Rica’s Red Cross discovered Warner unconscious at approximately 2:10 PM on Sunday, during their response to a water-related accident.

According to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OIJ), a trusted funeral service company, appointed and approved by the Warner family, will be responsible for retrieving Mr. Warner’s remains from the Judicial Morgue.

Based on reports from TMZ, it’s expected that his remains will depart from Costa Rica on Thursday and should reach Los Angeles by Friday morning.

According to a source, the actor’s body was handed over by the Coroner’s Office on Wednesday morning, after the conclusion of the autopsy.

After the unexpected passing of Warner, the lifeguards from Playa Grande, a coastal community in Costa Rica, explained that their absence was due to insufficient resources.

The Caribbean Guard, Costa Rica’s volunteer lifeguard association, announced on Facebook on Monday their deep sorrow over Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s death at Playa Grande. He tragically lost his life due to being caught in a powerful rip current and drowning.

The events unfolded swiftly, and despite several individuals on the shore who tried to swim out to save him, they unfortunately arrived too late.

‘He was rescued from the water with no signs of life, and although CPR was administered on the shore, efforts to revive him proved fruitless.’

The Guard mentioned that Playa Grande is among their “toughest coastal areas,” pointing out that there are warnings in both English and Spanish about the potential risk of drowning leading to fatalities.

Despite having been on patrol in that area for several years prior, they claimed their presence was not detected during the time when Warner passed away.

They mentioned in a statement that because of some water-related accidents at Playa Negra and Chiquita, which is also famous for its powerful currents, they have diverted their resources towards those locations recently.

They then made an appeal to Costa Rica’s president, Rodrigo Chaves Robles, and the government.

‘Caribbean Guard, a volunteer lifeguard organization, appeals urgently to the President, national government, Talamanca Municipality, and Caribbean community at large. We ask everyone to unite in our efforts to address an issue that is unfortunately increasing throughout the country.’

‘We strive to do all that we can. Over the past few years, our efforts have resulted in the rescue of many lives, with the absence of Caribbean Guard likely resulting in scores of drownings instead. We pour everything into reducing risks, but without government assistance, clear regulations, and robust support from local businesses, these incidents will persist.’

On a Sunday, the Costa Rican Red Cross got a 9-1-1 emergency call concerning a water-related event at Playa Grande, Cahuita, LimĂłn. As a result, they dispatched three ambulances to the location, according to reports from Us Weekly.

According to Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department, their initial findings suggest that Warner seemed to have gone into the sea and may have been carried off by a strong current.

Warner had been in Costa Rica since July 13.

Warner gained fame primarily through his memorable portrayal of Theodore Huxtable, the one and only son character of Cliff Huxtable, in the popular NBC comedy series, The Cosby Show.

For eight seasons between 1984 and 1992, he made an appearance, garnering universal praise and ultimately being recognized by many households.

During that period, Warner, who was still a young teenager, garnered significant recognition for his acting skills. This acknowledgement included a nomination for the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the 1986 Primetime Emmy Awards.

The fictional character Theo was modeled after Bill Cosby’s actual son, Ennis Cosby, and was skillfully acted with both complexity and empathy.

During his first year at New York University, Theo’s academic struggles led to a diagnosis of dyslexia, which was relatable for many viewers as they followed this storyline in the series.

Beyond The Cosby Show, Warner carved out a successful and diverse career in both comedy and drama.

He played Malcolm McGee in the UPN sitcom “Malcolm & Eddie” (1996-2000) alongside Eddie Griffin, and later was the main character of BET’s “Reed Between the Lines” from 2011 to 2015, portraying Dr. Alex Reed.

Apart from his primary roles, he has made frequent appearances on various television shows such as Sons of Anarchy, Jeremiah, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Community. Additionally, he provided the voice for the character ‘Producer’ in the educational kids’ show The Magic School Bus.
