Major Marvel movie no longer expected to be a part of the Multiverse Saga
As a long-time Marvel fan, I must say that the Multiverse Saga has been an exhilarating ride so far, filled with unexpected twists and turns. The upcoming Avengers movies promise to be groundbreaking, especially with Robert Downey Jr. returning as Doctor Doom. However, the recent news about Doctor Strange 3 not being part of the Multiverse Saga left me feeling a bit bewildered.
Marvel Studios has been diligently working on refining the Multiverse Storyline since the Infinity Saga ended three years ago, encompassing both films and streaming TV series. Along this journey, there have been ups and downs, but Marvel Cinematic Universe is now set to unveil two groundbreaking Avengers movies featuring Robert Downey Jr.’s return as the antagonist Doctor Doom.
For quite some time, it’s been anticipated that the Multiverse Saga would end with these two upcoming Avengers films, similar to how the Infinity Saga concluded with a two-part finale consisting of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. However, recent information about Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars has made it clear that this is indeed the plan.
While this news about the MCU’s planned endgame is intriguing, it also implies a deadline for many projects in production. These were initially thought to be incorporated into the Multiverse Saga. Interestingly, this timeline might advantage films like Spider-Man 4 (as it now has a release date sandwiched between those two movies), but it could potentially exclude other projects from being part of the saga – a possibility hinted at in recent reports, which may impact one of the most eagerly awaited titles.
Doctor Strange 3 unlikely to be released as part of the Multiverse Saga
According to industry expert Daniel Richtman, it seems unlikely that Doctor Strange 3, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch, will be included in the Multiverse Saga during its development. However, keep in mind that this project is still being worked on, as various reports suggest. This recent news just hints that we might not find it within the ongoing saga.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got some exciting news! Despite some potential hiccups with the storyline for the sequel, it looks like we’ll get to see Benedict Cumberbatch reprise his role as the Sorcerer Supreme earlier than expected. The man himself has confirmed that he’ll be back for filming Avengers 5, now known as Avengers: Doomsday. With that underway, I’m optimistic we’ll see him in next year’s sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, as well. Can’t wait!
Although Marvel Studios hasn’t publicly confirmed a third Doctor Strange film, several sources suggest that it has been secretly in progress since the massive success of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” (which earned over $900 million at the box office and grossed an additional $300 million compared to its 2016 predecessor). However, the possibility of its release outside the Multiverse Saga raises some intriguing challenges for the franchise.
In the mid-credits scene of “Doctor Strange 2”, Charlize Theron’s character, Clea, appeared for her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut. She informed Stephen Strange that his actions throughout the film had caused an incursion, which required his assistance to rectify. Initially, it was presumed this event would unfold in the third Doctor Strange movie, but with Strange reappearing in “Avengers: Doomsday” and the sequel no longer part of the Multiverse Saga, it seems that the resolution of this issue might be handled within the Avengers series instead.
In previous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, it’s common for movies to hint at upcoming franchise installments instead of direct sequels. Since Clea is a significant character in the Doctor Strange comic book series, fans anticipated her involvement in the sequel. However, given that the multiversal conflict, or Incursions, plays a crucial role in the MCU’s self-created multiverse lore, it seems probable that this specific Doctor Strange storyline will be wrapped up before the next solo movie.
It’s truly disheartening to think that Doctor Strange 3 might miss out on the Multiverse Saga, but there’s solace in knowing that the Sorcerer Supreme will reappear quite soon. Interestingly, his next solo adventure seems destined for the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, more commonly known as the Mutants’ Saga. Rest assured, Doctor Strange could very well be a central character when this tale unfolds.
