Major Channel Seven star tipped to replace Matt Doran on Weekend Sunrise following his shock on-air resignation

As an ardent follower of Channel Seven and a devoted fan of Morning Sunrise, I find myself utterly captivated by the recent turn of events. The news of Matt Doran’s departure from Weekend Sunrise has left me with a bittersweet emotion, much like the taste of a perfectly ripe yet soon-to-be-gone peach.

It’s been hinted that a prominent figure from Channel Seven might step into Matt Doran’s role as Weekend Sunrise co-host, following his sudden on-air departure on Sunday.

Based on reports from news.com.au, it appears that David Woiwod, Seven’s US Correspondent stationed in Los Angeles, may take on the role of co-host alongside Monique Wright.

A reporter, originally from Melbourne, spent eight years working with Channel Seven, and served as a news presenter for Sunrise between 2016 and 2020.

He moved to Los Angeles in July 2020 to become the network’s US correspondent and was promoted to US Bureau Chief in April last year.

Woiwod has developed a reputation for his engaging personality and cheeky banter when reporting.

In 2020, Woiwod blushed during an interview on Sunrise when he accidentally said ‘Allan’ instead of the correct name, Ellen DeGeneres.

It comes after Doran called time on his five years at Weekend Sunrise.

At the conclusion of the program on Sunday, the breakfast presenter, aged 41, shared an emotional statement during a live broadcast.

Star of the Seven variety, who has lately shared his battles with depression on The Morning Show, announced that he plans to devote some time to his loved ones and explore new ventures.

Today, before we part ways, here’s some fresh news from the Doran household. I’m excited to tell you about a decision Kendall and I have made, along with our cherished Italian greyhound Murphy – and it goes like this: after five years on Weekend Sunrise, I will be wrapping things up at the end of this year.

This has been a tough decision for me as it’s accurate to say that it ranks among the top jobs out there. However, after careful consideration, we believe it’s the perfect choice at this moment – for our small household.

Though I find myself feeling melancholic at the moment, avoiding looking Monique directly in the eyes, I must admit that this very spot is filled with profound gratitude for the laughter shared, the valuable lessons learned, and the tears shed together.

I firmly believe that having the responsibility to narrate the deepest, most private tales of individuals ranks among the most honored and privileged roles on Earth.

Matt will present his final episode of Weekend Sunrise on Sunday, December 8, alongside Monique.

During a heartfelt conversation on the morning program, the host was overcome with emotion as he discussed his deep bond with his most trusted work partner.

On Monday, instead of merely being a coworker, you’ve become my closest friend, and I will deeply miss you. By any chance, could we manage a warm embrace? He inquired.

During the month of September, as Matt made an appearance on Morning Sunrise to promote his new book, Mental State, which focuses on Australia’s mental health care system, he courageously shared his personal battles with depression.

Matt wondered, “Are we improving, Doctor, at raising our hand and expressing, as you did, ‘I have an issue with anxiety’?

For a while now, I’ve also been grappling with significant bouts of depression. However, it seems that many individuals are hesitant to openly acknowledge this struggle.

Dr. Cross praised Matt, stating, “It’s truly impressive… as we delve deeper into the topic, it seems to only improve our understanding.

In the past few years, there have been some worries about Matt due to him unexpectedly vanishing from his workplace on two different instances.

In June, he failed to arrive to the Seven studios for work on Weekend Sunrise.

On Saturday, June 8, Chris Reason took over hosting duties for the breakfast show, as he had been brought in to replace the previous host. Monique Wright was also there with him.

A network spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia at the time that Matt was ‘on leave’.
