“Magnificent” new season of Netflix hit with “genuinely surprising” ending is streaming now

The popular series, Squid Game, is back on Netflix for its concluding third season, leaving critics in awe, labeling it as “extraordinary” or “stunning”.

In this South Korean series, which has broken records as the highest-grossing non-English show on the streaming platform, we follow a gruesome competition involving 456 ordinary citizens who are pushed to their limits by participating in life-threatening games for the chance to claim a substantial monetary reward.

Four years after it first premiered, the highly praised show has returned for its final chapter, as all six episodes of its third and last season are now available on Netflix (June 27th).

The latest season has earned significant praise, boasting a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 21 reviews. While this rating falls short of the initial season’s 95%, it surpasses the 83% score achieved by the second season, indicating a positive progression in quality.

In a review, The Guardian described the last two episodes as having a majestic and dramatic tone, while also finding the ending to be genuinely surprising. Similarly, Metro commented that the final minute was filled with shocking and unforeseen turns of events.

In simpler terms, Decider referred to it as a chaotic yet impressive finale for the captivating tale that began in 2021, while Mama’s Geeky called it a heart-pounding emotional ride.

According to TheWrap, the show continues to skillfully tell a heartbreaking story that keeps you both entertained and emotionally connected to its characters. Meanwhile, IndieWire commends the unyielding creativity of series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk.

According to The Financial Times, this fast-paced and skillfully managed series remains hard to resist watching. However, they pointed out that the dark, entertaining aspect from the initial season seemed to have diminished somewhat in the process.

In simpler terms, TV Insider expressed a similar thought by saying that although the series initially held intrigue due to its suspense, the novelty or initial excitement seems to have faded. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter suggested that perhaps the cursed island setting should have been abandoned following the first season.

Seasons 1-3 of the popular show “Squid Game” can be found on Netflix. Additionally, “Squid Game: The Challenge” is set to make a comeback for its second season.
