Magliano Unveils SS26 Menswear Collection Through a Contemplative Film at Milan Fashion Week
Summary
- The collection is presented as a short film aboard a ferry, emphasizing stillness over spectacle
- It’s inspired by “sabbatical moments” and “camping poetry,” with utilitarian, nomadic influences
- It also explores adaptable silhouettes and material contrasts between polyester and cotton
At the Milan Fashion Week, I recently got a sneak peek at the Magliano Spring/Summer 2026 collection. It was a one-of-a-kind experience, happening on a ferry boat under the cover of night, creatively directed by Thomas Hardiman and featuring music by Federico Chiari. The unusual setting echoed the theme of taking a break or “sabbatical moment,” which was beautifully captured in the collection.
Inspired by the idea of temporary living and poetic camping, this line offers a gritty yet contemplative perspective on the concept of transience. It’s all about embracing the fleeting nature of life and fashion, while still maintaining a thoughtful approach to design.
Designer Luca Magliano reimagines fashion by taking everyday items such as ropes and hooks and transforming them into closures and adornments. He delves into the juxtaposition of polyester and cotton, using these fabrics to create garments reminiscent of portable shelters. Worn-out backpacks are given a new life, displaying signs of wear that evoke the romantic transience and ingenuity associated with camping and nomadic existence. Additionally, there’s an emphasis on raw hems, natural dyes, and materials that adapt over time, favoring authenticity over superficial distressing effects.
The design concept centers on relaxed, flowing shapes, offering a fresh take on everyday wear with a sophisticated yet daring approach. The color schemes are vibrant yet subdued, featuring textural variations, rough embellishments, and intriguing tactile elements. The collection boasts attention to detail, functional design, and even offers an impressive selection of eye-catching footwear.
Significant items in the range are the “Titanic-inspired laced boots” from 1900, timeless safety shoes, vibrant and practical soccer sneakers designed together with Beja, and crocheted ballet flats that give a contemporary, urban twist to traditionally delicate styles. With poetic functionality and deep emotion, Magliano skillfully reinterprets men’s fashion in this collection — presenting an image that is both rooted and subtly revolutionary.
