Magic Johnson’s gay son EJ Johnson says he only dates ‘straight’ men and admits to secret celebrity hookups

The son of basketball star Magic Johnson recently revealed his unexpected tastes in dating.

EJ Johnson, 33, recently shared with Carlos King that he doesn’t date men, even though he identifies as gay.

I’ve been following Ezra A. Johnson for a while now, and he’s always been really open about expressing himself through traditionally feminine clothing. He recently shared with Stephen King something I found incredibly relatable – that sometimes, he finds himself competing with women for the attention of men who identify as straight. It’s a complex situation, and he’s made it clear he doesn’t identify as transgender, but it’s just his experience navigating attraction and relationships.

Johnson stated on the ‘Reality with The King’ podcast that he is not attracted to men, nor does he attract them.

I avoid gay clubs and events because the kind of men I’m interested in aren’t usually there, the reality star explained.

Johnson explained that these men weren’t pursuing a romantic relationship with him, noting he typically receives attention from men in places generally considered ‘straight.’

I’ve always felt a certain way, but it’s become even more pronounced since I started expressing my femininity more openly. It’s just… more me now, you know?

Johnson hasn’t publicly discussed his relationships, but he admitted to having secretly dated a couple of celebrities.

Johnson first shot to fame on the E! reality series Rich Kids of Beverly Hills in 2013.

He publicly shared that he is gay and has stated he does not intend to undergo medical procedures to transition to a woman.

Johnson is known for a fashion style that isn’t limited by traditional gender norms, and often expresses more feminine aesthetics.

He shares that he’s comfortable with any pronouns, but recently he’s begun to use fewer traditionally masculine terms when referring to himself.

Magic Johnson loves and supports his son, but he’s shared that it took him some time to fully understand and accept EJ’s sexual orientation.

He explained to Variety in 2022 that growing up playing team sports made him initially wonder if his son would be interested in sports too. But when he saw his son enjoyed playing with dolls and dressing up, he was surprised and questioned what he was doing.

EJ shared that he told his parents about his sexuality last, and Magic initially struggled to accept the news.

It was a lot for everyone to process, especially my dad, since he was the last one to speak with him, EJ explained.

He seemed overwhelmed by the conversation, with a lot of back-and-forth discussion. He started talking about unpleasant things, but he doesn’t handle being put on the spot or caught off guard very well.

A few months after EJ started college in New York, his father came to visit, and they resolved their differences.

EJ remembered that when he picked her up from her dorm, she casually greeted him. But then he gave her a really tight hug, squeezing the air out of her, and that’s when she realized he truly loved her.

Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson often attends public events with his son and is a vocal advocate for LGBTQ rights.

In 2023, Magic told People he was very proud of the person’s commitment to helping others and using their voice to make a difference.

‘He’s saving a lot of people’s lives and people don’t even know, and I’m so proud of him.’

After becoming well-known through reality TV, Johnson began working as a voice actor on the Disney+ show, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.
