MAFS UK’s Sophie Brown announces her engagement to boyfriend James Preset following sun-soaked proposal in Australia – three years after ‘painful’ TV split from ‘body-shaming’ ex

Sophie Brown, who appeared on the UK version of Married At First Sight, has found love again, three years after a difficult breakup on the show with her ex-husband, Johnathan Wileman, who she says criticized her appearance.

The reality TV star, known from a 2002 show on E4, announced on Instagram Wednesday that her boyfriend, James Preset, proposed while they were vacationing in his hometown of Adelaide, Australia.

Sophie posted a photo of her partner proposing to her on one knee at Glenelg Beach. They were both wearing white for the special moment.

The overjoyed bride-to-be captioned the post: ‘Just when life couldn’t get any better’.

Many of Sophie’s former Married at First Sight (MAFS) castmates immediately congratulated Rizz Darlington, with some simply writing “OMG, congratulations!”

Zoe Clifton wrote: ‘Congratulations!!’ while Chanita Stephenson added: “Ahhhhh congratulations’.

On the reality show Married At First Sight, Sophie and Johnathan got married after meeting for the very first time.

After the show finished, she shared that the conversations about her body image during filming had deeply affected her.

During the show, Johnathan made a controversial comment, stating he disliked women with muscular legs, which caused outrage among both the cast and viewers.

After the show, Rachel explained that she was upset by comments about her weight, specifically a remark about having “horse legs.” She said it sparked online discussion and criticism of her appearance, which was difficult for her.

She admitted it was hurtful when people commented on her weight, saying things like, “She’s a little chubby.”

She explained she realized she’s a normal size 10, and that it must be difficult for other women to see unrealistic body standards online.

Rachel also faced criticism for body-shaming. Amy Christopher, a contestant from the 2021 season, said that Rachel and fellow contestant Adrian Sanderson made fun of her weight during a live broadcast.

Both Sophie and Adrian publicly stated they hadn’t known about the comments and strongly disapproved of them.

I don’t usually comment on things like this, but when it comes to body image, I definitely will speak up. I heard about some hurtful comments made during live streams, and nobody deserves to experience that.

It’s especially upsetting because I understand exactly what she’s going through. I experienced similar criticism during the show – people constantly commented on my weight, calling me chubby and fat. Regardless of why they said it, the focus was on my body, and I know firsthand how hurtful that kind of attention can be.

Dealing with this is incredibly difficult and a sensitive issue. I strongly disapprove of anyone who targets others, and commenting on someone’s body online is awful.

It’s wrong for anyone to criticize another person’s body. This all started when someone shared their personal preferences, and now people are being compared and judged based on their size. I want no part of that kind of conversation.

I want to keep my online space positive, so I wouldn’t share anything related to body image. It’s a sensitive topic for many, and I prefer not to discuss it.

Adrian addressed the situation on his Stories, explaining he wasn’t sure what exactly was said, as it happened in the live stream’s comments section.

I requested screen recordings to identify who made the comments so I can block them on Instagram. I wish Marilyse had let me know sooner so I could have stopped it immediately.

‘I will never condone this hate online, and I hope we can continue to be kind in the future.’

The Daily Mail reached out to Sophie Brown, Adrian Sanderson, and Amy Christophers’ representatives for a response, but did not receive one at the time.
