MAFS Stars Defy Channel Nine in Shocking Instagram Takeover Scandal

A band of unconventional participants from the television show “Married At First Sight” have gone against Channel Nine‘s rules and potentially violated their contracts, as they’ve seized management of their personal Instagram profiles once again.

And insiders say the network is fuming.

According to Daily Mail Australia, newlyweds Dave Hand (the groom) and Veronica Cloherty (the bride), who gained unexpected fame as intruders on a reality TV show, have independently changed their Instagram passwords and are unwilling to return access to the accounts to the program’s publicity team.

It appears that the three individuals are rumored to be intending to capitalize on their recent fame by starting influencer jobs right away, which could potentially breach their agreements with network Nine and production company Endemol Shine Australia. This swift action, however, seems underhanded.

Based on what the source has shared, it appears that Nine’s public relations team is expressing displeasure towards the unauthorized individuals, who took action prematurely and caught the network executives off guard.

A source familiar with the situation shared with Daily Mail Australia: “It’s not a favorable image. With the series still being broadcast abroad, Nine and ESA cannot afford for them to act independently on social media.

This year, there has been a significant change at Channel Nine regarding the cast members’ social media usage. They are no longer allowed to regain control of their accounts until May 10, which is beyond the Australian finale, to match the show’s airing in the UK.

According to the source, they aim to manage the storyline for as extended a period as feasible and prevent attendees from criticizing the program due to perceived poor editing choices.

It’s being reported that Nine and ESA might take action against certain Instagram users by removing their verification checkmarks, potentially even taking over their accounts, as a form of discipline for breaching the agreed-upon terms in their contracts.

As a loyal confidant, I’m sharing this exclusive detail: They’ve made it so that those who breached their contracts and chose to act independently, won’t be granted the privilege of the blue tick badge, which they seem to be withholding.

This setback is quite significant for us this year; several of us had been hoping to capitalize on the exposure from the show to secure brand collaborations and high-value influencer agreements.

A somewhat agitated bride, preferring anonymity, shared with Daily Mail Australia: ‘Various companies have reached out to me, but each one has stated the same condition – they require management access to my account in order to officially represent me.’

During the broadcast, Nine’s PR team tightly controlled the social media handles of the show’s contestants.

Under close monitoring, the bride and groom were restricted from writing captions, having comment sections, or accessing private messages to eliminate any chances for brand collaborations.

Over the last several weeks, contributors could submit photos and titles for potential posts, however, the decision on what ultimately got posted lay with Nine’s social media team.

Adrian Falk, a specialist in digital marketing and public relations at Believe Advertising & PR, warned there might be severe repercussions for breaching such agreements.

Falk explained to Daily Mail Australia that individuals with talent should understand they are committing themselves to a legally binding contract when they decide to join a television program.

If they damage or violate the rules, this could potentially impact their ability to secure future partnerships and job prospects. Brands tend to associate with individuals who respect the guidelines; if not, there’s a risk that their career could come to a halt.

This year, the celebrities tying the knot aren’t garnering as much social media attention as their predecessors did in previous seasons.

Married At First Sight reunion airs Sunday at 7pm on Channel Nine and 9NOW.
