MAFS’ Mel Schilling’s Cancer Battle Update and New Series Teasers: Unstoppable!
Married At First Sight’s specialist Mel Schilling has left viewers spellbound across the globe through her knowledge, compassion, and shrewd observations.
However, away from the public eye, this cherished authority figure, aged 53, has wrestled with her own private struggles, among which is a transformative cancer diagnosis that has significantly altered her perspective on existence.
In a candid conversation with Daily Mail Australia, Mel has revealed insights into her health transformation and joyous life in her recent abode. She also hinted at exciting developments for the upcoming season of the widely popular Channel Nine romance series.
In December 2023, Mel found herself dealing with a bowel cancer diagnosis amidst her hectic travels between London and Sydney. This life-altering diagnosis significantly changed her outlook on life.
She confessed that she hadn’t been paying attention to her body’s signals. She believed her discomfort—the bloating, poor sleep, and lack of appetite—was merely jet lag. However, discovering it was a tumor came as quite a shock.
Luckily, Mel’s health condition has improved significantly. She even announced that she is experiencing peak wellness and currently in remission.
I’m feeling incredibly energetic! My vigor has returned, along with the enthusiasm that makes me stride confidently. Nothing can hold me back anymore!
Mel also revealed the pivotal role her daughter Maddie, 10, played in her recovery.
She turned into a mini motivator for me. On days when I struggled to rise from bed, she’d perform little shows, singing and dancing, which helped her deal with the situation. This act of hers significantly boosted my spirits.
Ever since openly sharing her bowel cancer diagnosis, Mel has dedicated herself to spreading knowledge about this condition, focusing especially on reaching younger individuals.
People used to think that bowel cancer only affected the elderly, but that’s no longer true. It’s crucial for everyone to stay attentive to their body’s signals and request a stool test,” she emphasized.
After moving to the United Kingdom, Mel has made it clear that she now considers London as her hometown, living there with her husband Gareth and their daughter Maddie who is happily adjusting to her new school.
She expressed that it feels like home to her now, as Madeline is entering her last year at primary school, and there are numerous intriguing projects waiting for her here.
Mel is seizing each chance that comes along, including creating her own TV show concept and hinting at a potential future performance on Strictly Come Dancing.
I’ve found an amazing chance, and I’m seizing it! Strictly Come Dancing is something I adore, and I plan to participate someday. You’ll see!
Even though she’s engrossed in the British adaptation of MAFS, Mel still maintains a strong bond with the Australian version.
She compared it to giving birth, saying that all the effort put in is now ready to be shared with the world, as they approach the Australian season.
Mel now finds it instinctive to juggle between the two television series, having filmed a total of 15 seasons in both nations.
Work is part of my life, but I’ve mastered the art of disconnecting when it’s time for leisure. My focus these days is on my family and maintaining good health.
In anticipation for the new season of MAFS, Mel hints at an open and straightforward stance from the experts this time around.
As your go-to lifestyle guide, let me share some insight: You can expect a more resilient stance from me this year. I’ve always had a keen ear for misogyny and disrespectful behavior, regardless of the source – be it men or women. In 2023, I plan to address such instances head-on when they arise.
Mel also touched on the evolution of the participants, saying they’re savvier than ever before.
As someone who’s deeply immersed in this amazing show, I can attest that our loyal viewers have been tuning in for more than ten years now. Over time, the contestants have grown remarkably savvy about its intricacies.
They understand the purpose of social dinners and arrive prepared to share freely and engage deeply in their connections.
In an innovative twist for the program, a novel segment known as the “greener grass” study will challenge couples with unprecedented trials they’ve never faced before.
We aimed to imitate genuine temptations in a realistic setting. Watching the outcomes has been captivating; some pairs remain faithful, whereas others struggle and potentially break up. Ultimately, it’s a means of assessing just how robust their relationships truly are.
Married At First Sight continues Tuesday 7.30pm on Channel Nine
