Juliette Chae, who joined the show Married At First Sight as an intruder, has revealed what her husband, Joel Moses, is like when they’re not filming.
The 27-year-old receptionist, after her very public wedding drama, told the Daily Mail that despite how perfect her wedding seemed, she had noticed warning signs she couldn’t overlook.
‘The day for me still was so special,’ she said.
‘It was nice to relive it… walking down that aisle and seeing Joel standing there.’
Juliette always dreamed of her wedding and was truly thrilled to finally meet the man selected for her by the matchmakers.
I was really eager to find out which candidates the experts thought would be a good match for me, she said.
Seeing him definitely gave me a thrill, but I immediately had a nagging feeling that something wasn’t right – it almost seemed too good to be true.
And according to Juliette, that instinct may have been right.
‘Near the end of the wedding, I felt like it wasn’t how I thought it would be initially,’ she said.
I was really surprised—it wasn’t the perfect wedding I’d imagined.
Although the audience enjoyed Joel’s funny and expressive speech, Juliette said his wedding vows were the first sign that something was wrong.
‘I thought he was nervous at the start,’ she said.
At first, the promises he made worried me, but I figured he was just anxious.
But as the day progressed, she began to question whether nerves were really to blame.
‘It started to feel like, wow, maybe it isn’t nerves and he thinks this is a joke,’ she admitted.
She felt his initial presentation was overly theatrical and hoped to see a more genuine and natural side of Joel throughout the evening.
‘I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt,’ she said.
However, it was Joel’s mother’s speech that ultimately shifted something inside her.
‘It felt like my heart had sunk,’ Juliette confessed.
I was really surprised to hear a mother speak so negatively about her son – I’d never encountered anything like it before.
Even though that happened, she immediately complimented Joel’s mother, describing her as ‘beautiful’ and ‘genuinely kind’ all day, making the speech even more puzzling.
Juliette also responded to concerns about Joel not properly acknowledging her family and friends at the wedding.
‘I feel like he didn’t put in that much effort to get to know anyone,’ she said.
Again, she initially brushed it off as nerves.
‘You kind of assume it’s just all nerves.’
After the wedding reception, while riding in the limousine, Juliette told Joel that he had convinced her he was truly sincere about their relationship.
‘He promised me that he was here for genuine reasons,’ she said.
‘All I can do is accept that… I’ve got to give him another chance.’
When directly asked if Joel thought he was the central figure in the study, she answered honestly and without hesitation.
‘It was giving that a bit,’ she admitted.
Juliette hopes she and her guests can connect and find common ground at future dinner parties.
‘I’m hoping that when we do the honeymoon and everything, we develop some form of unity,’ she said.
Although Joel mentioned some disagreements with fellow bride Gia Fleur, Juliette offered a more detailed and subtle explanation of how the group was interacting.
She revealed that both Gia and Mel approached her warmly at her wedding reception.
‘Gia and Mel came up to me straight away… they were so lovely and beautiful to me,’ she said.
‘They made me feel really welcome into the group.’
Even though Gia and Bec’s conflict has been a major focus lately, Juliette says she always tries to find the positive side in people.
‘I see the beautiful side in everyone, definitely – until proven wrong,’ she said.
When asked if she was concerned about getting caught in the middle of the drama, Juliette explained that being a late arrival as an intruder gave her a different perspective than those who were original contestants.
‘I’ve had a completely different experience to everyone else,’ she explained.
‘Friendships changed, opinions changed, alliances changed.’
When it comes to the Gia and Bec fallout, Juliette admitted the drama has been sad to witness.
‘It’s definitely sad,’ she said.
‘It has taken away from love stories. The show is about trying to find love.’
She said being caught in the middle of the conflict felt incredibly stressful and that at first, she didn’t know who she could rely on.
‘At first, it was hard to figure out who to trust,’ she said.
But Juliette remains determined to stay grounded.
‘Trust your gut. Truth comes out,’ she said.
She immediately said yes when asked if she regretted not following her gut feeling on her wedding day.
‘Yeah, definitely… in every aspect of life,’ she said.
‘I think my gut serves me well in the end.’
Honestly, I’m really curious to see where things go with her and Joel! Will her gut feelings bring them closer together, or will she get caught in the middle of this season’s biggest drama? It’s a total cliffhanger, and I’m on the edge of my seat to find out!
Married At First Sight continues Wednesday 7.30pm on Channel Nine and 9Now.
