Chris Nield has been seen publicly for the first time since his very public relationship on television ended badly.
On Tuesday’s episode of Married At First Sight, groom Johnny Balbuziente and his wife, Brook Crompton, confirmed their split. However, it was also revealed that since the show ended last year, Brook has gotten engaged to her ex-boyfriend and is expecting a baby.
The 31-year-old athlete, who is also a construction supervisor, appeared cheerful at Sydney Airport before heading out to do some shopping.
Chris showed off his biceps in a black tank top which he paired with matching shorts.
He added a pair of white socks and cream sneakers, while wheeling along a small carry-on suitcase.
After arriving from the airport, Chris went shopping and bought some comfortable clothes at the store Venroy.
This follows Chris’s reaction to the news that Brook has reunited with her former partner, shortly after the Daily Mail first revealed the story.
Chris, who worked closely with Brook on the show, recently shared his honest reaction to a surprising turn of events that shocked audiences and proved some cast members right.
Chris says he doesn’t harbor any negativity towards Brook, but acknowledges that early on, there were warning signs about their relationship.
Last week, a scandal broke when the Daily Mail reported that Brook had secretly gotten back together with her former partner, Harry. The Daily Mail also published photos and video of them kissing and being affectionate while decorating a Christmas tree in October – just weeks after her marriage to Chris fell apart behind the scenes.
This incident proved what people on set had been quietly suggesting: Chris now feels Brook wasn’t truly committed to the project.
Chris mentioned back in November that he didn’t believe she was ready for a new relationship.
Discovering she’d slept with her ex just two days before our wedding, especially finding out on the show, makes me realize now that she probably wasn’t ready for marriage.
Chris understood the situation better when he learned Brook quickly returned to her normal routine after the show finished filming.
I was absolutely floored when I saw it – a TikTok, of all things! It was like, three or four weeks after everything wrapped up, and there she was, back with him. Can you believe it? Back at his place, living with him again. I just… I couldn’t process it. It felt like a punch to the gut.
Chris acknowledged the difficult situation: their relationship, though sometimes very close, was always strained by Brook’s ongoing wish to end things.
The groom said that during filming, Brook repeatedly threatened to leave, packing her bags several times. He explained that the stressful atmosphere of the production really took a toll on both of them.
He explained that they were both very detail-oriented, and the challenging circumstances repeatedly wore them down.
If one of us was having a bad time, the other one would quickly feel the same way. She left after the first weekend, and while it was a series of small things, they all added up and made her want to leave and go home.
Chris thought the wedding was fantastic and was first drawn to Brook. However, he said the atmosphere changed right away when a friend supposedly made a remark about her height as she was walking down the aisle.
He said Brook was surprised by how the game played out and admitted he didn’t fully understand the impact it had on her until afterward.
He said it took a couple of days into their honeymoon before she realized they had a strong connection and really got along.
He now thinks their relationship was never going to work because Brook still had feelings for someone else and was drawn to what she already knew.
He said she was returning to what she knew because she felt anxious about trying something new.
Chris shared that he hasn’t talked to Brook since a last media event for Channel Nine, explaining that she chose to end their communication after that.
‘I knew she’d already made a decision not to speak to me after that,’ he said.
With Brook now dating her ex again, Chris feels like she can’t get in touch with her anymore.
‘I think it’s more for the respect out of her relationship that she’s in now,’ he said.
‘It’d be strange to let that relationship or friendship be there.’
