MAFS groom Chris Nield breaks his silence after Brook Crompton’s shock reunion with ex and pregnancy news is confirmed

As a dedicated viewer of Married At First Sight, I was really shocked to hear that Brook is back with her ex, just days after the news first broke on Daily Mail. Chris Nield, her husband on the show, has finally addressed everything, and I’m eager to hear what he has to say about this whole situation.

The 31-year-old Australian athlete and construction worker recently had a candid conversation to process the shocking turn of events on the show, a twist that both surprised audiences and proved some cast members right.

Although Chris claims he doesn’t harbor any negativity towards Brook, he acknowledges that early on, there were warning signs about their relationship.

Last week, news broke that Brook and her ex-boyfriend, Harry, had gotten back together. The Daily Mail published photos and video of them kissing and being affectionate while decorating a Christmas tree in October – just weeks after her marriage to Chris ended amid personal troubles.

This incident proved what people on set had been quietly suggesting: Chris now feels Brook wasn’t truly committed to the project.

Chris mentioned back in November that he didn’t believe she was ready to start a new relationship.

Discovering on our wedding day that she’d spent the night with her ex just two days prior… honestly, in hindsight, it seems like she wasn’t truly prepared to get married.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen this pattern before, and honestly, it all clicked for me when I learned Brook quickly returned to her previous routines after the show finished filming. It explained so much about what happened afterward – it became clear she was prioritizing getting back to what felt normal for her.

He said that about three or four weeks after they stopped working together, she started dating him again and moved back into his apartment.

Chris acknowledged the difficult truth that their relationship, though sometimes very close, was consistently strained by Brook’s ongoing wish to end things.

The groom said that during filming, Brook frequently threatened to leave, packing her bags several times. He explained that the stressful conditions on set were extremely difficult for both of them.

He explained that both he and the other person were quite exacting, and he believed the surrounding circumstances repeatedly overwhelmed them.

If one of us was having a bad time, the other one would quickly feel the same way. She left after the first weekend – it was a series of small things, but they all added up and made her want to leave and go home.

Chris confessed to being overly controlling and found it difficult being without his phone. He said the experience was far more stressful and frustrating than he anticipated.

‘My personality doesn’t suit it at all,’ he said.

I was constantly frustrated, especially being stuck in my room without my phone. It felt like things were just getting worse and worse.

Despite everything, he maintained that he didn’t participate in the show for attention or to gain popularity, and surprisingly, said he hadn’t even auditioned.

He insisted he hadn’t come up with the idea himself, explaining that he’d received a phone call. He also mentioned he’d previously tried out for both Big Brother and Survivor.

At first, I wasn’t interested at all – the idea seemed really odd. But then the timing worked out perfectly. I was stuck in a boring city job and figured, “What have I got to lose?”

Chris thought the wedding was fantastic, and he was first drawn to Brook. However, he said the atmosphere changed quickly when a friend reportedly made a remark about her height as she was walking down the aisle.

He said Brook was surprised by the competitive nature of the game, and he admitted he hadn’t fully understood how much it bothered her until after the fact.

He said his wife hadn’t thought they were a good match at first, but she changed her mind after a couple of days into their honeymoon, realizing they actually had a lot in common personally.

By the time they reached the apartments, Chris believed they were one of the strongest matches.

He explained that he felt a stronger connection with them, feeling like they had more in common and similar personalities.

He now thinks their relationship was never going to work because Brook still had feelings for someone else and was drawn to what she already knew.

I always understood her decision as a return to what felt safe. It wasn’t about a lack of courage, but a worry about stepping into the unknown. He explained it as her needing the comfort of familiarity because she was anxious about this new chapter in her life.

Chris shared that he and Brook had a difficult final week on the show. They both actually booked flights to leave before the last commitment ceremony, realizing their relationship wasn’t going to work out.

He said the dinner party that week was a wild mess, thanks to a lot of drinking – and that Brook showed up extremely intoxicated after drinking champagne in the car.

He claimed she had been drinking champagne in a car before the night went wrong, starting with a disagreement between her and Stella, which then led to him confronting other people on set.

He acknowledged he was sorry for some of his statements, especially for focusing on Alissa’s private life.

He admitted it wasn’t a decision he’d usually make, explaining that strong feelings led him to act in a way he now thinks wasn’t the best course of action.

As a devoted viewer, I was really disturbed by what Chris revealed. He said Brook was pushed way too far by the show’s team, and it sounds like they didn’t even give her a moment’s peace – even following her when she was clearly trying to get away from the cameras. It’s honestly heartbreaking to think about.

‘They were trying to make the narrative of her deserting me,’ he claimed.

‘That’s not what she was doing. She was just protecting herself.’

Chris said he left the couch to find Brook and claimed there were ‘no boundaries’.

‘They were following her into the toilet, trying to film her with a camera,’ he alleged.

In the end, he said they refused to let producers split them up for footage.

‘We said, no – you’re not doing that. We’re leaving together. That’s our decisions,’ he said.

Chris shared that he hasn’t talked to Brook since a final media event for Channel Nine, explaining that she chose to end their communication after that.

‘I knew she’d already made a decision not to speak to me after that,’ he said.

With Brook now dating her ex again, Chris feels like she can’t get in touch with her at all.

‘I think it’s more pushed on for the respect out of her relationship that she’s in now,’ he said.

‘It’d be strange to let that relationship or friendship be there.’

Chris suggested Brook’s boyfriend might be discouraging her from participating in the show and dealing with the ongoing media attention surrounding the cast.

Last week, the Daily Mail reported that Brook is expecting a baby, after photos surfaced of her in Brisbane showing a visible pregnancy.

Channel Nine has declined to comment.
