MAFS bride Bec Zacharia hits back at ‘insecure’ label and defends marriage to Danny Hewitt

Rebecca Zacharia, a bride from Married At First Sight, has responded to accusations that she’s insecure and pretending to be someone she’s not.

The 36-year-old Adelaide socialite told the Daily Mail that viewers are now beginning to understand the genuine connection she shares with her husband, Danny Hewitt, especially during ‘Revelations Week’.

Bec said this recent episode was the first time she felt their relationship was shown accurately on TV.

‘I actually felt really good watching Wednesday’s episode,’ she said.

It was the first time throughout the entire series that Danny and I truly seemed to connect with each other.

Bec shared that she was upset with how the show initially portrayed her as very insecure. She explained that a lot of good moments from her honeymoon weren’t included in the final edit.

‘I feel like it’s been a little bit negative, making me look extremely insecure,’ she said.

Our honeymoon had a lot of wonderful moments that weren’t captured on camera. What viewers saw yesterday really highlighted how close and connected we are.

A particularly memorable moment from the episode was when Danny, after choosing Bec as his top pick in the photo ranking challenge, angrily threw the rest of the photos out the window.

Bec knew Danny often exaggerated, but she truly believed his gesture was sincere when it happened.

‘It was really comforting for him to do that,’ she said.

Danny definitely enjoys making a splash, but this didn’t feel like one of his performances. It felt like a genuine declaration – he was making it clear that he was completely focused on this person during the experiment.

However, Bec revealed the move may not have been entirely spontaneous.

She mentioned he’d opened the balcony door before we even started shooting, and it really struck me – he must have thought this whole thing out beforehand. It felt so deliberate, like it was all part of his plan.

‘He knew it would make me feel positive, but he also knew it would be a big splash.’

Behind the scenes, she said the moment was far less polished than what viewers saw.

She explained that the photo had become stuck to the outside window, and they needed to go outside with a producer to remove it, adding with a laugh.

‘He was definitely in trouble.’

During the height of Revelations Week, Bec noted that the brides were increasingly tense and competitive, even questioning the authenticity of each other’s relationships.

‘There was definitely a level of competition with the girls that night,’ she said.

‘Without a doubt.’

She admitted that multiple brides had doubts about whether other couples were genuinely in love, and she wondered if that included her and Danny.

‘I know Alissa [Faye] had reservations about Danny and I,’ she said.

‘And Brooke definitely had reservations about a few couples.’

Despite being accused of hiding issues, Bec insisted she was simply protecting her relationship.

‘People were saying I was hiding things, but I was protecting my marriage at that point,’ she said.

‘At least Danny and I were authentic enough to say things weren’t perfect.’

Bec also shared her thoughts on Brooke and Chris’s difficult relationship, confirming that the drama viewers are seeing on screen is genuine.

‘They actually grew really close on the honeymoon,’ she said.

As a longtime viewer, I have to say, the show is getting it right. Chris immediately owned up to his mistakes and made it clear he was committed to growing and changing, and that really resonated with me.

Bec found it surprisingly insightful to watch couples face difficulties on the show, especially those who seemed strong and stable while they were filming.

‘You don’t know what’s happening behind closed doors,’ she said.

Bec confessed she wasn’t aware of what was happening between Melissa Akbay and Luke Fourniotis.

She added that couples presenting themselves as secure often have cracks viewers never see.

‘All these people who look so secure actually do have cracks,’ she said.

‘They’re just hiding it. Whereas Danny and I were honest.’

Bec predicts the next dinner party will be particularly dramatic and full of conflict.

‘It’s Armageddon,’ she said.

‘That dinner party went for about two hours. It was that intense.’

She described vicious exchanges, swearing, catfights and unresolved tension spilling over.

She described a really hostile environment filled with harsh words, shouting, and a lot of bitterness, especially between women and couples.

‘And that wasn’t producer-led. People were genuinely going at each other.’

Despite the chaos ahead, Bec made it clear where her loyalty lies.

‘If anyone comes for my husband, I’ll defend him,’ she said.

Married At First Sight continues Sunday at 7pm on Channel Nine
