MAFS 2025: Viewers slam cast of 'wannabe influencers' chasing their '15 seconds of fame' in new trailer

As a lifestyle expert with decades of experience observing reality television, I must say that the upcoming season of Married At First Sight seems to be veering off course from its original purpose. While I appreciate the desire for drama and excitement, it appears that the focus on influencers and social media stars may be detracting from the authenticity of the experiment.

Channel Nine has dropped a brand-new teaser for the upcoming 2025 season of Married At First Sight.

And while it promises drama, tears, and romance, viewers seem to have one major gripe – the cast.

On Sunday, social media buzzed with excitement following the release of the trailer, as many fans criticized the seemingly excessive presence of social media influencers among the couples expected to wed next year.

‘Another batch of wannabe influencers, yay,’ one user commented.

‘Oh great, can’t wait for another season of Real Estate Agent Wants a Wife,’ added another.

The criticism didn’t stop there.

Others were equally vocal about their frustrations.

A curious fan asked, “How many influencers or actors are participating this year?”, while others accused the event of being less about love and more about fame.

‘Just call it what it is – drama,’ wrote one viewer.

‘None of them are in it for love… it’s all for the followers and their 15 seconds of fame.’

2019’s roster includes IT specialists, health gurus, and business owners, yet it’s their sleek online presence that has caught the attention of spectators.

In this production, you’ll find Rhi Disljenkovic, who is an IT account manager, as well as Lauren Hall, a former MAFS groom’s associate and a CEO; also included are social media influencer Jamie Marinos and the ex-Bachelor contestant Sierah Swepstone.

Besides being known as wedding celebrants or DJs, Morena Farina, TikTok tradie Dave Hand, and Billy Belcher have started gaining popularity online.

Fans claim that since there are at least two individuals related to past television personalities from the reality world, it seems like the focus of the experiment is more on creating entertaining and Instagram-friendly conflicts rather than authentic pairing for true compatibility.

Married At First Sight will premiere Monday, January 27 on Channel Nine
