Madonna vs. Netflix: Inside the Battle for the Ultimate Madonna Biopic With Julia Garner

It seems that the long-term endeavor by Madonna to produce a biographical film about her life, with Julia Garner as the leading actress, might be materializing in a manner quite unlike what was initially expected.

As reported by Deadline on Monday, the iconic 66-year-old pop queen has joined forces with worldwide streaming leader Netflix for a brief television series.

To clarify, it’s essential to understand that this project isn’t related to the biographical feature film about the music star, which was under development at Universal and had Julia, aged 31, slated to play the lead role.

Although it’s a competing production, the three-time Emmy victor is the top contender for the part. According to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeeva, Julia is highly likely to portray Madonna, assuming her schedule permits, as she currently doesn’t have a contract.

Although it hasn’t been determined which phases of Madonna’s extensive career will be featured, given that Julia is around 30 years old, she seems ideally suited for the late 1980s to early 1990s era.

It’s been mentioned as well that Madonna is teaming up with Shawn Levy, a renowned Canadian director known for his work on films like Deadpool and Wolverine from last year.

For quite some time now, they’ve been discussing the project because it’s still in its preliminary stages for TV production. It’s uncertain at this point whether Madonna will participate in the scriptwriting since she previously collaborated on a competing film.

Madonna has been persistent in her years-long effort to have a movie about her life made.

2023 found me delving into a biographical project titled “Who’s That Girl,” a tribute to my 1987 film and hit single of the same name, where I got to bring it to life.

Initially, Diablo Cody was involved as a collaborator for the scriptwriting of the movie, and it was originally named “Little Sparrow.

However, the hitmaker pivoted her focus to zero in on her international Celebration tour.

Previously, a resident of Michigan primarily authored this movie in collaboration with Erin Cressida Wilson, and was keen on having Garner play the character.

In November last year, Madonna openly expressed her annoyance on social media about the obstacles she was facing while trying to transform her movie idea into reality.

On Instagram, she posted, “After battling for several days in Los Angeles with producers and agents explaining why my movie wouldn’t work, it occurred to me that every aspect of my life will face obstacles.

The well-known artist mentioned that she’s been dedicating four years to perfecting her craft, but some folks have suggested she might want to reconsider and work on a more modest project instead.

The extended caption reads, ‘I don’t get any simple solutions. I suppose I ought to be thankful… It pushes me to consider unconventional paths. My life wasn’t typical and I can’t create it in a conventional manner.’

After interacting with my dear ones, I found myself reinvigorated with fresh determination; it’s as if their creativity has provided me with the perfect spark to carry on!

Embrace courage in every step of your journey! Life is about growth, not shrinking back. If you truly desire something, the entire cosmos seems to align to support your pursuit.

Afterward, she sought the opinion of almost 20 million people by posing the question: ‘Would it be better to transform my life’s tale into a series or a movie?’
