Madonna vs. Gaga: Pop Queen Sparks Feud Again!

Madonna stirred up a buzz on social media with a secretive message suggesting someone had copied her, just following Lady Gaga’s main performance at Coachella.

2012 saw Lady Gaga unveil her song “Born This Way,” a track that faced considerable backlash due to its perceived resemblance to Madonna’s 1989 chart-topper, “Express Yourself.

As the uproar grew stronger, Madonna herself joined the debate, expressing her opinion that Gaga’s song appears simplistic or overly simplified.

Currently, but interestingly enough, the Material Girl has surprisingly taken up the cause for other female artists who were criticized as imitating her original style.

Or:
In a surprising twist, the Material Girl is now advocating on behalf of fellow female artists who faced accusations of copying her unique style.

On this past Wednesday, she posted a selfie on Instagram accompanied by the caption: “Did you notice someone else imitated you?” May it never be that a woman draws inspiration from another.

66-year-old Pop Queen titled her Instagram post with a kiss emoji, expressing, “I can see you, I love you. Keep going, my dears, you’re doing wonderfully!

In another instance, the seven-time Grammy winner echoed Kris Jenner’s words from a 2007 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, where she encouraged daughter Kim Kardashian during her Playboy photoshoot: “You’re doing wonderfully, my dear!

Fans of Lady Gaga were enraged on social media when Madonna changed her stance, prompting them to question aloud: “Where was this enthusiasm during the Born This Way period?

A different user on platform X, formerly known as Twitter, would often criticize Lady Gaga. However, when Gaga continued expressing her admiration for Madonna, another user responded with a displeased remark.

Instead of lamenting that it took her many years to change her perspective, one might say, “She regretted not having provided the encouraging vibe to a budding pop sensation, instead of feeling threatened and dismissing her as ‘redundant’.

15 years ago, I might have voiced my opinion about Gaga allegedly copying her, but I chose not to. However, looking back now, I can’t help but chuckle at the memory of a remark I made that was seen as overly simplistic.

Some spectators pondered if Madonna could be rekindling her past disagreement with Lady Gaga, questioning: “Is she subtly criticizing Gaga?” or “Could this be a hint of shade towards Lady Gaga?

Simultaneously, Madonna restricted comments on her Instagram post, yet her supporters were active. One of these supporters, @mikromc, managed to comment: “Got you, copycat @ladygaga!

‘Gaga always copying you. So fed up!’ Instagram user @toni_minogue_ciccone_bunton agreed.

Instagram user @virginia.brigden shared a gif showing Madonna’s 39-year-old pop contemporary giving a nod, with the caption reading: ‘Indeed.’

‘Clock them babe!’ Instagram user @therealalbie wrote.

‘We know full well who is a tribute act to you. Oh the Mayhem.’

Last Friday, Lady Gaga (originally Stefani Germanotta) opted for a large red dress at Coachella, which interestingly mirrored both Björk’s flowing ocean-like dress from the 2004 Summer Olympics and Grace Jones’ Keith Haring-painted gown seen in her I’m Not Perfect music video back in 1986.

By January 2024, Michigan-born Madge had openly stated onstage in Toronto that she wouldn’t appreciate being confused with the 14-time Grammy winner: “I must clarify, I have nothing against Lady Gaga. In fact, I admire her greatly. But, you know, it’s always nice to be taller than someone!

In 2019, during her 12th annual party following the Oscars, it was believed that the longstanding Italian-American divas put an end to their feud by taking a playful boudoir photograph together.

In a 2012 interview on 20/20, the Material Girl criticized Lady Gaga for the similarity between her song “Born This Way” (released in 2011) and Madonna’s previous hit “Express Yourself” (from 1989), saying that Gaga was oversimplifying or reducing the originality of her work.

During her 88-show MDNA Tour, Madonna blended the two songs together. This tour was particularly significant as it began and ended with her 2008 track “She’s Not Me” (and she remains unlike that person).

Lately, the mother of six (who has been through two divorces) had a reunion with Julia Garner, who is portraying her in the self-directed biopic titled “Who’s That Girl.” This meeting took place at the actress’s 17th annual post-Oscars party, which was hosted at the Los Angeles residence of her manager, Guy Oseary, on March 2.

Since last July, there has been no new information from Madonna about the movie, which Universal Studios put on hold in 2023, as she and screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson have been revising the script together.

Previously, the director who worked on Evita faced criticism for two movies that were financial failures at the box office – Filth and Wisdom released in 2008, and W.E., which hit the screens in 2011.

Madonna is planning to bring back her sixth studio album “Bedtime Stories” soon. This album was previously nominated for the Best Pop Album at the Grammys and had two songs, “Secret” and “Take a Bow”, reach the third spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1994.

Instead of merely reminiscing about past triumphs, the co-founder of Raising Malawi is pouring all her heart and soul into creating new music, working closely with musical director Stuart Price, for a follow-up to her 2005 dance album titled Confessions on a Dance Floor.

Madonna, with approximately 38.6 million listeners per month on Spotify, wrapped up her successful 81-date Celebration Tour, which grossed a total of $225.3 million, on May 4th. Impressively, she managed to do so.
