Madeleine West, 47, Claps Back at ‘Grandma’ Comments as She Defends Seventh Pregnancy

At 47 years old, Madeleine West openly discusses her upcoming pregnancy, eagerly anticipating the arrival of her seventh child.

In a previous relationship with renowned chef Shannon Bennett, the actress from Neighbours has five daughters and a son who they both share.

60 Minutes’ sneak peek at an upcoming interview reveals that West maintains her resilience against critics and continues dancing to the rhythm of her personal tune.

She was taken aback by the number of people who showed surprise upon learning that she was expecting another child at her advanced age. However, she was equally surprised and delighted by the overwhelming outpouring of support she encountered.

West expressed surprise when he said, “Naturally, there was a great deal of astonishment. And then, ‘Could it be true? At this stage in your life, with your career flourishing and numerous children,'” to the interviewer Tara Brown.

However, it’s astonishing to discover numerous individuals who have shared their experiences, saying, “I followed a similar path as yours, yet I always felt isolated. It seemed as though everyone at the park would perceive me as a grandmother.

When someone questioned whether she was often referred to as a “playground grandmother,” the actress replied: “Absolutely, that’s just how it goes. However, I’ve always maintained that I march to the rhythm of my unique melody.

‘I’ve always done things a little bit different. A little bit outside the norm.’

Following West’s announcement of her pregnancy in January, this was followed by the reactions from her friends.

On a Sunday, the TV personality (who has Phoenix, 19; Hendrix, 16; Xascha, 14; Xanthe, 12; and twins Xalia and Margaux, 10, with Shannon, aged 49) expressed that her friends were taken aback when she shared her pregnancy news.

When she initially informed her circle about the major announcement, there was definitely a surprised expression. To put it mildly, it seemed like a ‘deer-in-headlights’ moment, she disclosed.

Yet, she responded with a stunned face which quickly transformed into an expression of awe when her companions inquired whether she intended to “raise” or “care for” the baby instead.

The contentious topic led to a broader discussion on pregnancies in elderly women, including the potential risks involved, that she elaborated further during her chat with Stellar Magazine.

She shared with the publication that she aims to view motherhood not as a restriction on her abilities, but rather as an aspect that significantly enhances them.

She continued by expressing that although becoming pregnant wasn’t part of her plans, it turned out to be an unexpected yet delightful surprise.

She expressed that it seems as if this small individual has appeared exactly when I am completely prepared.

West went on to say she now has ‘more time, wisdom and experience’ when it comes to parenting.

Discussing what’s commonly referred to as a ‘pregnancy in later years’, the soon-to-be mother of seven voiced her discontent about the scarcity of dialogues worldwide regarding pregnancies that occur later in life.

West noted that while there’s a significant rise in the number of women giving birth in their forties, this topic isn’t widely discussed or acknowledged in society as a whole.

In January, it was revealed that West is expecting her seventh child, which comes ten years after the birth of her last one.

She revealed the surprising news in an Instagram post.

In the image, she proudly displayed her expanding belly, clad in a snug tank top that showed off her bare midriff as it rode up slightly.

She titled her post, ‘Oops!’ She initially mistook it for perimenopause symptoms. However, it turns out she was mistaken! It wasn’t due to excessive Christmas pudding consumption either. But honestly, I can’t help but feel overjoyed.
