Made In Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews ‘Betrayed’ by Jamie Laing’s Ultra Marathon Snub

Fans of Made In Chelsea found themselves puzzled last Friday as Jamie Laing successfully finished his grueling 150-mile Comic Relief run in just five days, amassing over £2 million for charity along the way.

36-year-old reality TV personality was accompanied by his friends and relatives as they surprised him along his journey from London to Salford. Notable figures joining included co-star Oliver Proudlock, Traitors winner Leanne Quigley, and Radio 1’s Greg James.

However, spectators were taken aback by the conspicuous absence of one well-known figure – Spencer Matthews, aged 36, who openly considers him his closest friend – as he is a seasoned marathon runner, having completed an impressive 30 marathons in 30 consecutive days across the Jordanian desert last year.

The additional evidence supports the idea that Spencer and Jamie, who used to be very attached at the hip, have grown apart. In reality, they seldom spend time together these days.

It seems the source of their problems can be traced back to the year 2023, when Spencer expressed anger after being excluded from Jamie’s wedding.

Although Spencer was part of Jamie and Sophie’s wedding festivities in Spain during June, it came as a shock to fans that he was absent from their legal ceremony held two months earlier, a small gathering at London’s Chelsea Registry Office. Instead, he opted for a family vacation in Portugal.

Following the surprise from fans, Spencer took the opportunity on his Vogue podcast to clarify matters, disclosing that he hadn’t received an invitation, and sharing his disappointment about being overlooked.

He shared that he’s facing criticism for choosing to take a vacation instead of attending his best friend’s wedding, and then sharing posts about the trip on social media. He clarified that he’s not intending to complain about his friends but rather expressing that there has been some significant misunderstanding from him.

Let me clarify a point that’s important to me. I’m not here to complain, but rather to clear up a misunderstanding. Neither I nor Vogue were invited to the portion of Jamie’s wedding that we are aware of.

He expressed his frustration because he wasn’t invited and would have traveled to Japan specifically for the event.

On his recent podcast episode, NewlyWeds, Jamie expressed gratitude towards his dear friends who stood by him during a challenging time, while holding back tears, which might have been a subtle acknowledgment of Spencer’s absence.

He shared a segment from his Comic Relief video journal, where he expressed: “Midway through the day, I was unexpectedly caught off guard by my dear friend, Ollie Proudlock.

I didn’t anticipate it at all; it was one of those instances where I’m usually quite adept at handling surprises, but his sudden appearance caught me off guard, and it turned out to be far more emotionally impactful than anything.

Later on, it turned out that Sophie [Habboo, his wife] was waiting for me at the finish line. I had expected her to arrive either the next day or the day after, but it was wonderful to see her there unexpectedly…

Yesterday’s highlight for me was witnessing my father at the finish line. That sight at the finish line was truly awe-inspiring and unforgettable.
