Alice Vanderpump, known from the show Made In Chelsea, has addressed online criticism about her choice to both breastfeed and formula feed her new baby.
Alice, age 24, and her husband Sam, 28, who is a star on the show ‘MIC’, became parents last month. This week, Alice shared how she’s adjusting to motherhood with her 238,000 TikTok followers.
She shared a video of herself bottlefeeding her son as she chatted about their first month.
After Alice shared a video, some viewers commented on her decision to use bottles to feed her baby, with one popular comment asking, ‘Why did you choose to bottlefeed?’
While others criticized the initial question, Alice responded with a calm explanation of why she chooses to both breastfeed and formula feed her son.
Okay, so she’s still breastfeeding, which is amazing to me! She doesn’t even use formula, can you believe it? It wasn’t easy, though – she said he had a tongue tie and it really did a number on her nipples. Now she’s constantly worried he’s not getting enough, even right after a feeding. It’s just… so much, and I’m so impressed she’s powering through it all!
In the video, Alice happily shared how much her first month with her baby, Duke (as she and Sam call him), has meant to her. She also opened up about struggling with significant anxiety since becoming a mother.
Watching him eat, she thought about how quickly time had passed and how much he’d grown. ‘It feels like my life truly began when you arrived,’ she said to her son.
It’s hard to describe the love you feel for your child – I’ve finally understood what people mean by ‘unconditional love,’ Alice said, but she added a word of caution:
It’s something people don’t really talk about, but I often feel anxious and wake up worrying he might have passed away. It’s a really dark thought to have.
I get really anxious when I can’t see him, even if he’s just in another room. The thought of someone else touching him is also very stressful for me. It’s a really intense mix of feelings – it’s wonderful being with him, but also incredibly frightening.
The couple shared the news of their son Marmaduke’s birth with Hello! magazine, explaining that the name was a special tribute to Sam’s father, Mark, who sadly passed away in 2018 at age 59.
Alice had her baby at the Kensington Wing of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on February 9th.
Sam and Alice married in an intimate ceremony at Chelsea Registry Office just before Christmas.
The wedding followed a very challenging time. He became severely ill with the flu at the end of 2024, which led to sepsis and ultimately caused his liver and kidneys to fail.
The TV star was later found to have severe, permanent liver damage and is currently waiting for a life-saving liver transplant.
Even though the future was uncertain, Sam and Alice decided to focus on their love for each other. They chose to get married while Sam was feeling well, before their son was born.
Oh my gosh, he just told HELLO! Magazine everything! Apparently, he was really going through it emotionally before the wedding – all that stuff with his health was just weighing him down. But he said these last few days have been pure bliss, and honestly, I’m SO happy to hear that! He deserves all the happiness in the world!
The wedding was arranged within four weeks and was followed by a dinner at The Lanesborough.
The couple planned a simple wedding, picking out Alice’s dress together and skipping typical traditions like a first dance and long speeches.
The newlyweds plan to host a larger celebration in May 2027, after welcoming their son.
Sam proposed to Alice in March, not long after a serious health scare. He’d been hospitalized in January with liver and kidney problems that led to a life-threatening infection.
He was born with two uncommon conditions affecting his liver and kidneys, but they didn’t cause problems until last December, when his organs started to fail.
On the ‘We Need To Talk’ podcast with Paul C. Brunson, Sam shared that he found out what was really causing his health issues shortly after Alice announced she was pregnant.
The actor openly shared his fear that he wouldn’t live long enough to meet his son, after learning he urgently needed a liver transplant.
Sam, who lost his father seven years ago, shared that his first thought always goes to his future child. He explained, ‘It makes me sad to think my dad will never get to meet his grandchild.’
‘To now start having that thing dawned on you. Am I going to see my child? That’s terrifying.’
Lisa, 65, is known for appearing on both The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and her own show, Vanderpump Rules. She’s the sister of Sam’s father, Mark Vanderpump, who is a businessman and DJ.
Sam and Alice shared the happy news that they’re expecting a baby boy in September, and he’s due on Valentine’s Day. They’ve already chosen a name for him!
Sam shared that they’ve named their new pet Marmaduke. He explained that his father had always wanted to call his brother ‘Duke,’ jokingly predicting he’d one day be Prime Minister – ‘Duke Vanderpump.’ Sadly, their father is no longer alive.
I adored the name, but my mom wasn’t a fan. That’s why my brother ended up being called Jack. Our dad cleverly got his way in the end though, by giving Jack the middle name Daniels.
We absolutely love the name Marmaduke, and we’ve nicknamed him Duke. We were inspired by a wonderful scene in Downton Abbey where Maggie Smith and her daughter talk about a character named Marmaduke, and it made the name even more special to us.
