Television

Catherine O’Hara, the beloved actress from ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ ‘The Studio,’ and ‘Home Alone,’ has passed away at the age of 71.

Catherine O’Hara brilliantly played Kate McCallister, the worried but strong mother of Kevin in the beloved movies “Home Alone” (1990) and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” (1992). These films made Macaulay Culkin a star and have become true Christmas favorites, largely due to the genuine connection between Culkin and O’Hara.

O’Hara and Culkin reunited in 2023 when O’Hara presented Culkin with his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She spoke highly of his humor, describing it as both charming and quirky, and credited it with helping him cope with becoming famous so young.

Movies

This week also features screenings of Elaine May’s ‘A New Leaf,’ plus 35mm presentations of ‘Danger: Diabolik’ and ‘Barbarella.’ A double feature of films by Eric Rohmer will also be shown.

According to Catherine O’Hara, Macaulay Culkin is the reason ‘Home Alone’ remains a beloved family tradition for many around the world each year.

She jokingly acknowledged being the ‘fake mom who left you home alone a couple of times’ before adding, ‘I’m so proud of you.’
