M80 parts ways with Overwatch 2 squad after Esports World Cup
As a dedicated fan who has followed M80’s journey through the Overwatch 2 scene, I must say this news has left me a bit disheartened. The team had shown great promise and potential, with a roster that was nothing short of star-studded. Their performances in the OWCS were impressive, and I eagerly awaited their progress in the Esports World Cup.
M80 have parted ways with their Overwatch 2 roster after an underwhelming EWC performance.
The M80 Overwatch 2 team has been key to the North American Overwatch 2 league, but it was revealed today that they are disbanding their entire roster. This decision follows closely after the departure of team member Spectra just five days ago. This move also comes after a less-than-impressive performance at the World Esports Cup.
M80 part ways with Overwatch 2 roster
The M80 team is a fresh addition to Overwatch 2, having entered the competition for the first time this year at the start of Stage One Swiss of the Overwatch 2 Champion Series. Yet, despite being newcomers, M80 belongs to a large organization, leading to a warm reception from the OWCS. The original lineup consisted of Ultraviolet, Lyar, Seeker, S9mm, and Coluge, but this didn’t last long due to a significant roster shake-up within M80. Over time, they found stability with their current well-known squad.
- Go “Spectra” Dong-woo
- Colin “Coluge” Arai
- William “Lyar” Ohlstein
- Alex “Seeker” Taylor
- Charlie “TR33” Chu
- Benjamin “UltraViolet” David
It was thrilling to witness this team come together, as each player boasted a rich background in the competitive Overwatch 2 world. They kicked off impressively, securing second and third positions at the OWCS 2024 North American Stage one and two tournaments respectively. This achievement granted M80 a spot in the Overwatch 2024 Major, however, their run ended prematurely when they were defeated by Spacestation Gaming, finishing in fifth place.
Esports World Cup disappointment signalled the end for M80
2024 saw the Esports World Cup arrive, and during group stages, M80 displayed commendable performance. However, when playoffs began, they met their match against Team Falcons. This formidable Korean Overwatch 2 team swept M80 clean off the stage with a 4-0 victory, concluding M80’s run in places 9-12.

Following the resolution of the previous events, Spectra shared a tweet with the abbreviation “LFT” (Looking for Team). This marked the initial hint suggesting that team M80 might be disbanding. Shortly after, TR33 and UltraViolet switched to NRG Shock. The decisive blow to M80 came when Coluge posted on Twitter, acknowledging that “it’s over.” With three key players departed, M80 eventually confirmed that their Overwatch 2 journey had indeed come to an end.
Hopefully this is not the end for M80’s time in Overwatch 2.
