M8 marteen sets all-time kill record with 126, secures Masters Santiago spot

I was so hyped to see Gentle Mates qualify for Masters Santiago! And wow, marteen absolutely crushed it – he set a new record with 126 kills, which is insane! He really carried the team, and I can’t wait to see them compete.

Martin Pátek, known as “marteen,” had an incredible 24 hours, breaking four records and achieving a new all-time high of 126 kills. Thanks to his outstanding play, his team, Gentle Mates (M8), qualified for the Masters Santiago tournament, a remarkable comeback after being relegated from the VCT EMEA league just a year prior.

M8 marteen breaks all-time kill record

Marteen had an incredible performance in just one day, dominating in a recent match against BBL Esports. He broke the VCT EMEA kill record – previously held by keiko – by achieving over 88 kills, and even surpassed his own personal best with a total of 106 kills in the best-of-five series. Despite his impressive performance, his team, Gentle Mates, ultimately lost the series to BBL Esports.

The following day, Gentle Mates had a chance to demonstrate their skill in the Mid Bracket Finals against Fnatic. Martin “marteen” Pátek quickly broke the record for most kills in a best-of-five series, surpassing 111 kills previously held by Zheng “ZmjjKK” Yongkang. The intense match, which went to three overtimes, ultimately saw marteen shatter Nicolas “srN” Niederauer’s all-time kill record, ending with a remarkable 126 kills.

The next aspas?

Everyone was surprised when he first played in the top-level VCT 2024: EMEA Kickoff and led Karmine Corp to victory. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep up that success at Masters Madrid, finishing in 5th-6th place. After that, Karmine Corp didn’t qualify for any more international tournaments.

After the 2025 season, marteen signed with Gentle Mates, a team that had been dropped from the main league but earned its way back after KOI left. While his performance in Project Blender was decent, marteen really shone at the start of the VCT 2026 season in EMEA.

Wow, watching them dominate the Upper Bracket was incredible! They took down FUT Esports, GIANTX, and even NAVI without much trouble. Even though BBL Esports eventually beat them, marteen was a total standout player the whole time. Seriously, people are already calling him “the next aspas” – you remember how amazing Erick “aspas” Santos was when he first hit the Tier 1 scene back in 2021? It feels like marteen has that same potential!

Gentle Mates earned a spot at the Masters Santiago tournament as the second-seeded team from the EMEA region. They’ll compete in the Swiss Stage against Xi Lai Gaming, EDward Gaming, and T1, all of whom have already qualified.
