‘M3GAN’ Returns in First Sequel Teaser
Like all good slasher movie killers, M3GAN is back.
In the initial movie, the artificially intelligent doll that resembled a child appeared to have been destroyed. However, this film proved to be quite successful, earning over $180 million globally. Therefore, M3GAN returns in a new sequel, appropriately named M3GAN 2.0.
In the original movie, stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, who weren’t the menacing dolls, have returned for another round. However, neither of them is featured in the initial trailer for M3GAN 2.0. Instead, the trailer primarily showcases M3GAN dancing, which may be due to the popularity of the dance-related memes that emerged from the first film. You can check it out below.
There’s a new poster for the film as well…
We also know the official synopsis for the sequel as well…
Two years following the malfunction and destructive rampage of M3GAN, a remarkable AI creation by Gemma (Allison Williams), the event has left her as a renowned author and advocate for government regulation of AI technology. On the other hand, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw) is now 14, asserting her teenage independence against Gemma’s protective measures. Unaware to both of them, the technology behind M3GAN has been covertly misused by a prominent defense contractor to develop Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), an advanced AI weapon with lethal capabilities as a military infiltrator. However, as Amelia’s self-awareness deepens, she shows growing disinterest in following human commands and maintaining their presence.
I guess we can only cross our fingers that M3GAN 2.0 turns out great, or else there might be a lot of humor about AI penning its script for Universal. M3GAN 2.0 is slated to hit theaters on June 27.
12 Movie Performances So Bad They Became Iconic
Keanu Reeves in Bram Stoker’s Dracula
You might not recall the exact location where you first heard Keanu Reeves pronounce Budapest as “Beeuu-dapest,” but chances are it’s left an indelible impression. Over time, we’ve grown to appreciate Reeves, a captivating and committed actor who immerses himself in his roles with a daring, almost Nicolas Cage-like flair. However, he struggled mightily in Francis Ford Coppola’s gothic adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the film Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It could be argued that his portrayal of Jonathan Harker, a bumbling, awkward character overshadowed by the sophisticated, aristocratic vampire count pursuing his wife, aligns well with the movie’s themes. Yet, Reeves’ performance is so comically unusual that it’s unclear if it was intentional or not.
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Batman & Robin
The line “What wiped out the dinosaurs? The Ice Age!” is one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s many ice-themed quips from his role as the villain Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin, and even though they are awful (“Let’s crush some ICE!”), they become increasingly amusing as the movie progresses. Schwarzenegger delivers them all with his signature exaggerated style, and as his metaphors grow more contrived, we find ourselves enjoying them more. It is possible to label his performance as subpar – you could (and should) say the same about every performance in that film – but despite its poor quality, it still manages to work: “Alright, everyone. Calm down… calm down… RELAX!
John Travolta in Battlefield Earth
In a world we wouldn’t wish to live under the rule of John Travolta and his alien bureaucratic cronies from Battlefield Earth, due mainly to Travolta’s gratingly giggly portrayal of Terl, the Psychlo security chief, who oversees the enslavement of local man-animals. To describe his performance as “overacting” would be an understatement for what he delivers in this movie. Battlefield Earth was a long-cherished adaptation of L. Ron Hubbard’s novel by Travolta himself, who poured years into its development. As Terl, Travolta strays far from the menacing villainy of Darth Vader or the brutal ferocity of Xenomorphs. Instead, he chooses a fey, simpering delivery for every line and resorts to shrill exclamations like “DO YOU WANT LUNCH?!” punctuated by giggles.
Hayden Christensen in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones
In this film multiple times, we’ve discussed Hayden Christensen’s performance as the Jedi in training Anakin Skywalker in “Attack of the Clones”. While it may not have been worthy of an Oscar, his acting fits well with the movie. Anakin is far from the conventional heroic protagonist that audiences might expect, and his social awkwardness often prevents him from becoming genuinely likable (as shown in the sand speech). Some might argue that Christensen’s acting is stiff and peculiar, but it could be argued that this matches the character of Anakin, who was supposed to be stiff and peculiar. It’s possible we are giving George Lucas too much credit for his writing skills, but if the intention was for Anakin to be an accidentally charming semi-hero struggling with his extraordinary abilities and overwhelmed by the rules of his new society, then Christensen’s portrayal hits the mark.
Tommy Wiseau in The Room
In any collection of questionable acting, the enigmatic Tommy Wiseau stands out as the leading figure. He portrays Johnny, a hapless romantic banker whose fiancée betrays him with his best friend in the movie The Room. This quadruple-threat talent (writer, director, producer, and actor) delivers his lines as if an extraterrestrial who had just landed on Earth might, alternating between shouting and flailing his limbs one moment, then whispering softly the next. To make matters more peculiar, it’s believed that all of his lines were rerecorded, giving them a distinctly alien-like tone. It’s hard to forget; who among us hasn’t exclaimed dramatically, “YOU’RE TEARING ME APART, LISA!!”, in response to even the smallest inconvenience?
Kristen Stewart in Twilight
Kristen Stewart’s memorable, halting portrayal of Bella Swan in the Twilight series was so distinctive that it even inspired Taylor Swift to mimic it during her Saturday Night Live hosting gig. Similar to Hayden Christensen, Stewart’s acting abilities in this role were not fully appreciated at the time; instead, she was frequently criticized for her peculiar line delivery and quirks like biting her lip compulsively and tucking her hair behind her ear. However, if we remember Bella so vividly, it suggests that Stewart must have been doing something effectively in her portrayal.
Kristen Stewart’s unique performance as Bella Swan in the Twilight movies was so recognizable that Taylor Swift made fun of it on SNL. Just like Hayden Christensen, people didn’t realize how good Stewart was at first because they often criticized her unusual line delivery and habits like biting her lip a lot. But if we remember Bella well, it means Stewart must have been doing something right in her portrayal.
Eddie Redmayne in Jupiter Ascending
It’s understandable that Eddie Redmayne appears off-putting and bizarre as the antagonist Balem Abrasax in the Wachowskis’ space opera, Jupiter Ascending. After all, he’s an alien! He’s a being whose eternal youth is derived from draining vitality from colossal farms like Earth, whose inhabitants are unknowingly being exploited as livestock for an undisclosed off-world empire. Is it reasonable to expect someone who carries out such actions to deliver lines like “I CREATE LIFE” in a casual manner? The reason we don’t often mimic Balem at dinner parties is simply because not many people have seen Jupiter Ascending. However, it’s worth watching the film for Redmayne’s distinct acting style.
Jennifer Lawrence in mother!
In simpler terms,
“Many people might find Darren Aronofsky’s movie ‘mother!’ to be flawed, yet I believe it’s good. The same could be said about its lead actress, Jennifer Lawrence, who portrays a woman living with a man who seems unable to control the influx of guests into their incomplete home. It’s hard to imagine how one person could manage such a situation, especially when the sink isn’t even secure! Lawrence’s character spends most of the movie running around in a panic and questioning the rudeness of her guests. However, it’s not easy for us to judge whether we would react differently in her situation.
Jared Leto in House of Gucci
It could be seen as equally or perhaps more disrespectful to suggest that Jared Leto’s portrayal of Paolo Gucci in “House of Gucci” is offensive towards Italians, considering the stereotypical Italian characterization he presents. His over-the-top facial prosthetics and whiny voice make you yearn for any other actor to be on screen when he’s there—even Adam Driver with his questionable Italian accent. However, he does manage to deliver some excellent one-liners, such as the joke about not confusing excrement for “chocolate.” Truly.
Tom Hanks in Elvis
In a daring move, only a visionary like Baz Luhrmann could create a character as sinisterly wicked as Tom Hanks’ portrayal of Colonel Tom Parker. This man, who allegedly sucked the vitality and wealth from Elvis Presley, is depicted in the film Elvis. Colonel Tom, played by Hanks, slinks around backstage in a bulky suit and a tweed jacket, his eyes gleaming with greed whenever Elvis performs his signature hip-wiggling dance. The quick, impressive close-up of Hanks’ villainous face upon realizing that this new voice comes from a white singer is an astonishing piece of cinematography. While Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis was commendable, Hanks’ Colonel Tom Parker was undeniably unique and unparalleled in its impact.
