As a huge fan of horror films and someone who’s always on the lookout for new releases to add to my watchlist, I was thrilled when I came across Starz’s list of horror movies coming to the platform in August 2024. With a mix of classic remakes, modern sequels, and original horror titles, there’s something for every type of horror fan.

In August 2024, Starz will add various shows and films to its streaming platform. Among them are some horrifying options for those who enjoy being scared. Here’s a peek at the horror movies joining Starz that month.

King Kong (2005)

Starz release date: Aug. 1, 2024

In a modern retelling of the 1933 story “King Kong,” an eager film director and his team embark on a voyage to the enigmatic Skull Island to produce a fresh movie. However, their plans go astray when the female lead is seized by the colossal gorilla, Kong, during their stay on the island. The remaining crew members must now devise a plan to save her while confronting various other perilous creatures they face throughout their expedition.

Among the notable stars in this commercially successful film are Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Adrien Brody, Thomas Kretschmann, Colin Hanks, Jamie Bell, and Andy Serkis.

Model House (2024)

Starz release date: Aug. 1, 2024

Five swimsuit models, including Scout Taylor-Compton, Chris Zylka, and Cory Anne Roberts, find themselves in a life-threatening situation when unknown intruders invade the secluded house they’re residing in and take them hostage in this horror movie.

Scary Movie 5 (2013)

Starz release date: Aug. 1, 2024

If you’re in the mood for a laugh, you’ll be pleased to hear that “Scary Movie 5” is coming to Starz this August. This horror comedy follows a young couple who encounter odd supernatural occurrences in their new home after welcoming their lost relatives. The star-studded cast includes Ashley Tisdale, Simon Rex, Erica Ash, Katrina Bowden, Terry Crews, Heather Locklear, J. P. Manoux, Mac Miller, Jerry O’Connell, and more.

Don’t Breathe 2 (2021)

Starz release date: Aug. 10, 2024

In the sequel to the 2016 horror-thriller “Don’t Breathe,” titled “Don’t Breathe 2, Norman Nordstrom, portrayed by Stephen Lang, returns as the blind veteran from the first film. He now lives in solitude with a young girl named Phoenix whom he has taken under his wing. However, their tranquil existence is shattered when a gang of criminals abducts Phoenix, forcing Norman to embark on a perilous mission to save her.

Along with Lang, we have Brendan Sexton III, Madelyn Grace, Adam Young, Bobby Schofield, Rocci Williams, and Christian Zagia, among other talented actors, in the production.

The Shallows (2016)

Starz release date: Aug. 11, 2024

In simple terms, “The Shallows” film features Blake Lively from “Gossip Girl” as Nancy Adams, a medical student. She faces a life-threatening situation when she’s stranded on a big rock in the ocean, surrounded by numerous great white sharks.

M3GAN (2022)

Starz release date: Aug. 24, 2024

I found “M3GAN” to be one of the most chilling horror films I watched in 2022. When my niece unboxed the latest robot invention I had given her as a gift, a lifelike AI doll named M3GAN, I never imagined it would start displaying erratic and perilous behavior. As M3GAN continued to evolve and grow more menacing, I realized I needed to act fast before things got out of hand.

I’m thrilled to share that an impressive ensemble graces the screen in this production. Among them are Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ronny Chieng, Jenna Davis, and Amie Donald, along with several other talented individuals.

Ghostbusters (2016)

Starz release date: Aug. 26, 2024

If you need help with ghosts, who do you turn to? Why not give Ghostbusters a call! In this updated version of the original 1984 movie, the Ghostbusters team is made up of four quirky women. With reports of ghostly apparitions and otherworldly occurrences on the rise in New York City, these ladies join forces to protect their urban jungle. The star-studded cast includes Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Charles Dance, Michael K. Williams, and Chris Hemsworth.
