‘M3GAN 2.0’ Will Stream on Netflix in January 2026

The sequel to the AI horror film M3GAN, titled M3GAN 2.0, will now stream on Netflix. While the movie didn’t perform well in theaters this year, it was popular on Peacock over Halloween and has already shown success as a streaming title. Gerard Johnstone returns as director.

According to What’s On Netflix, the horror film M3GAN 2.0 will be streaming on Netflix US starting January 26, 2026. This is a bit surprising, as Universal Pictures movies usually become available on Prime Video after being on Peacock for four months. It seems Prime Video passed on the film, likely because it didn’t perform well in theaters, which allowed Netflix to offer it to their subscribers this New Year.

How Trying To Be ‘Superman’ Led to ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Box Office Fail

After M3GAN 2.0 earned less than $40 million in the summer of 2025—despite costing between $15 and $25 million to make—Blumhouse Productions CEO Jason Blum jokingly blamed Superman for its performance. He explained his reasoning to podcaster Matthew Belloni.

As a huge movie fan, I think a lot of us initially approached M3GAN thinking we could do anything with the character. It felt like she was untouchable, like a classic hero – we figured we could shift her into any genre, set her in any season, even completely change her look or make her a sympathetic character. Honestly, we probably spent way too much time analyzing just how connected people were becoming to her, overthinking the whole thing!

Blum was hinting that fans of M3GAN were disappointed because the filmmakers unexpectedly changed the character from a truly evil robot into someone who seemed to be trying to be a heroic action star.

We tried something different with the genre, but audiences weren’t prepared for the change. It’s a tricky balance with sequels: if you stick too closely to the original, people accuse you of simply rehashing old ideas and question why you even made a new movie. But if you deviate too much, they ask why it’s even a sequel, feeling like it has no connection to the first film and expressing their frustration.

In a review for MovieWeb, Will Sayre praised Jermaine Clement’s performance as Alton Appleton in M3GAN 2.0. Sayre noted that Clement, known from Flight of the Conchords, is hilarious in his limited screen time as a somewhat shady Silicon Valley billionaire who encourages Gemma. He described watching Clement get involved in the conflict between AMELIA and M3GAN as thoroughly entertaining.

After all that build-up, the movie really delivers with an amazing car chase through Northern California, mixed with some intense shootouts. Honestly, it takes M3GAN 2.0 beyond your typical Blumhouse horror film and feels like a full-on summer blockbuster. My only wish? It didn’t feel quite so long – two hours is a bit much for this kind of fun, fast-paced movie.

After some recent challenges, Netflix is hoping to win back viewers with the streaming release of M3GAN 2.0 this January.
