m0NESY reportedly signs with Falcons; will leave G2 before Austin Major

It seems that the Falcons have successfully agreed terms with m0NESY for a second time, as indicated by reports suggesting ink has been used.

According to French journalist Guillaume “neL” Rathier, it’s expected that top CS:GO sniper Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov will join the Falcons team within a few weeks. This significant move could happen as early as late 2024, if rumors are to be believed.

The decision will result in m0NESY becoming a member of the Falcons alongside his long-standing G2 teammate, NiKo. This move is certain to strengthen Falcons as a dominant force in esports, while simultaneously putting G2 in a challenging position to find replacements for two star players within a short span of six months.

Falcons to secure monster m0NESY signing before Austin

It seems that the addition of m0NESY to the Falcons team is nearly a done deal, as reported on April 4 by neL. Since December 2024, G2 had been offered m0NESY, coinciding with when NiKo joined the Saudi-backed project. However, at that time, G2 declined attempts to sign the young Russian player who is 19 years old.

As a dedicated gamer speaking for myself, I can confirm that our CEO, Alban “Stilgar” Dechelotte, hinted back in October that our team, the Falcons, had taken an interest in m0NESY. However, he emphasized that this Russian prodigy is crucial to our current project and will stick with us for the time being, at least in the near future.

It seems clear that the team, G2, has lost m0NESY, as they were unable to keep him any longer. His contract was ending towards the end of 2025, and with the Falcons making a second large offer in April (allegedly the largest in Counter-Strike history), it appears that G2 could not resist this opportunity.

During his three-year tenure with G2, m0NESY ascended to be among the top CS:GO players, partnering with NiKo to amass six prestigious titles and over $3.5 million in earnings. In 2025, his exceptional form was evident, boasting a staggering 1.29 HLTV rating across four significant tournaments.

G2 unable to keep up with m0NESY’s 2025 form

Despite the change following NiKo’s departure, G2’s performance has not been as expected. They brought in Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko from Cloud9, but there have been challenges as positions within the team have shifted. After a commendable fourth place at BLAST Bounty Spring, they have experienced earlier exits at IEM Katowice, ESL Pro League Season 21, and BLAST Open Spring.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but speculate that m0NESY might take over the sniper role from our current Falcons player, Abdulkhalik “degster” Gasanov, should he indeed leave the team as part of the Saudi project he joined with kyxsan and TeSeS in January. It remains uncertain whether degster will be included in this transfer or if G2 Esports might need to explore other options to fill the void left by their exceptional AWPer.

In addition, Falcons have faced challenges in major tournaments during 2025. Apart from a surprising runner-up performance at PGL Cluj-Napoca, their results were often early playoff exits; the best showing outside of the Romanian event was a 9th to 11th place finish at EPL Season 21.

If the transfer of m0NESY to the Falcons becomes official next week, it is expected that he will play his inaugural event with the team after PGL Bucharest. This means IEM Melbourne could be his debut match with the Falcons. However, if there’s a prolonged delay, his first appearance might take place at BLAST Rivals in Copenhagen or IEM Dallas.

Pending confirmation, the Falcons squad would become:

  • kyxsan (IGL)
  • TeSeS
  • Magisk
  • NiKo
  • m0NESY
  • Danny “zonic” Sørensen (coach)
