M. Night Shyamalan & Nicholas Sparks Team Up for Supernatural Love Thriller

Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan is renowned for his one-of-a-kind and recognizable directing approach, often centered around science fiction, supernatural tales such as “The Sixth Sense,” “Split,” and “Unbreakable,” or thrillers like the upcoming 2024’s. His next venture will bring together an extremely unconventional group.

In collaboration with the renowned author Nicholas Sparks, a well-known figure for writing heartwrenching romances like “A Walk to Remember” (2002) and “The Notebook” (2004), as well as romantic comedies such as “Dear John” (2010), “The Lucky One” (2012), and “Safe Haven” (2013), the famous director is working on a project titled “Remain”. Surprisingly, this joint effort will not be another romance but a supernatural thriller love story.

According to reports, prior to the movie’s theater release, Shyamalan and Sparks will jointly publish a novel. This novel serves as the basis for the film adaptation. In the story, “Remain” centers around Tate Donovan, a New York architect, who travels to Cape Cod to design his friend’s summer house. Seeking a fresh start, Tate has recently been discharged from a psychiatric facility where he was treated for severe depression.

Additionally, it mentions that “Donovan, who is still mourning the death of his cherished sister, encounters Wren, a youthful lady who provokes him to question every aspect of his rational and orderly existence.”

It’s stated that “Despite his ongoing sorrow over losing his dear sister, Donovan crosses paths with Wren, a vibrant young woman who causes him to reconsider everything he thought was logical and organized in his life.

The twosome have collaborated on both the novel and its script adaptation, and it’s been disclosed that they will share a common storyline and cast of characters. Additionally, they are slated to portray the main characters, Tate and Wren.

Working with M. Night Shyamalan has undeniably been a remarkable milestone in my professional journey, as I shared with the media outlet about our unanticipated partnership. Now, we eagerly look forward to revealing another step in this creative journey: the captivating book cover, expertly crafted by my long-time graphic designer Flamur Tonuzi.

The book cover depicts a house on a sunset beach, with the ocean visible in the background and a woman’s silhouette standing near a well-illuminated room window. Random House will publish this novel on October 7th. As for the adaptation, we don’t have a scheduled release date as of now.

Nicholas Sparks’ Adaptations Were a Hit With the Audience

Nicholas Sparks is a renowned romance writer, famous for novels that have been made into numerous movies. To date, he’s penned 23 romantic novels and two non-fiction books. His works have achieved massive sales, with millions sold worldwide, and they’ve been translated into more than 50 languages. Furthermore, they have graced the screens of various film productions.

The movie that brought him the most box office success is titled “Message in the Bottle“, featuring stars like Kevin Costner, Robin Wright, and several others such as Paul Newman, Susan Brightbill, John Savage, Illeana Douglas, and Robbie Coltrane. This blockbuster film earned a global total of approximately $118.8 million. Notably, it was preceded by another timeless romantic favorite, “The Notebook“, which made an impressive $115.6 million worldwide.

Despite receiving unfavorable critic reviews, several of his adaptations have thrived with audiences. For instance, “Safe Haven” (2013) garnered 67% approval from viewers but just 13% from critics, while “The Last Song” (2010) managed a 65% audience rating against only 21% critical acclaim. Even the classic film “The Notebook” earned 54% critic praise and 85% viewer appreciation.
