Lupin’s Omar Sy to lead “high octane” spin-off of popular action series
Lupin‘s Omar Sy has been cast in a new Netflix offshoot of a popular action franchise.
In a thrilling twist, the star is set to spearhead an action-packed series rooted in the Extraction universe, where the charismatic French actor assumes the role of a hired gun.
Titleless series chronicles the protagonist’s predicament amidst conflicting groups and merciless assassins, while embarking on a perilous rescue operation to free captives in Libya.
The show explores the intense emotional battles of complex and imperfect characters, who grapple with pain, deceit, and decisions that could mean life or death, as suggested by the summary.
The eight-part series will be supervised by Glen Mazzara, a key figure from “The Walking Dead,” who serves both as writer and showrunner. Additionally, the Russo brothers, known for their work on “Extraction,” are involved as producers, along with franchise director Sam Hargrave.
Mazzara expressed gratitude, stating, “I feel incredibly fortunate. Omar possesses immense talent. Joe, Anthony, and Angela have made me feel part of the AGBO family. The Netflix team stands out as the finest I’ve collaborated with in my career.
The “Extraction” film series, with its second installment premiered in 2023, features Chris Hemsworth and has been a major success on Netflix.
Another film is set to be released as well, as Joe Russo hinted in October that they are currently developing its plot.
He told Collider, “We plan to start filming this project next year.” He was deliberately vague about it because he finds it more exciting.
In 2023, there were hints about a possible spin-off for Idris Elba’s enigmatic character. Additionally, Hargrave mentioned the possibility of exploring “other paths” for more character spin-offs.
The Extraction series is yet to confirm a release date on Netflix.
