Lupin season 4 release date, cast, plot and everything you need to know
As a devoted fan of Lupin since its debut, I eagerly anticipate the upcoming season 4. Having followed the thrilling escapades of Assane Diop and his band of merry men, I can’t help but feel that the cliffhanger at the end of season 3 has left us all on tenterhooks. The Pellegrini reveal and Assane’s subsequent incarceration have set the stage for what could be a truly captivating jailbreak saga reminiscent of Shawshank Redemption.
Lupin spoilers follow.
Assane Diop, the cunning thief disguised as a nobleman, has stealthily returned to Paris once more, appearing on our Netflix displays for a thrilling series of unlikely burglaries targeting the affluent. He continually changes costumes and adopts various incomprehensible accents in the popular crime drama.
In a contemporary twist reminiscent of Arsène Lupin, our protagonist skillfully evaded death, saved his mother, and tragically deceived his confidant Benjamin, before eventually laying down his cherished Maurice Leblanc novels and surrendering himself to the authorities.
What might happen next with Lupin? Should we expect him to spend his time in prison, or is it possible that the character known for his clever schemes has another trick up his sleeve for another season of the Netflix series? Keep reading to discover the answer.
Lupin season 4 potential release date: When will it air?
In October 2023, the initial season of Lupin premiered, but as of now, no news about a fourth season has surfaced.
During the same month that season three premiered, the series’ creator, George Kay, provided an optimistic preview about potential content for a potential season four of Lupin.
In a conversation with Variety, Kay expressed, “We put immense effort into these seasons, and it’s fascinating to see the global response. So, I guess when considering his decisions, Damien [Couvreur, Netflix’s VP of content series in France] should take this into account.
When crafting interactions among characters, you establish the foundation for these series to endure over time, thereby avoiding situations where continuation becomes challenging. It’s more difficult to sustain a series if it isn’t designed to last.
He finished: “So we had very ambitious foundations for it. So it’s definitely got the scale, if it’s required.”
It’s hard to predict when a new season will arrive without confirmation of the show’s renewal but, you can bookmark this page and check back here for all the latest updates.
Lupin season 4 cast: Who’s in it?
In simpler terms, Omar Sy’s character, Assane, is the main attraction in the Lupin series. Therefore, any upcoming seasons should continue featuring him and his captivating persona. However, it’s not entirely impossible that the role might one day be handed over to his son Raoul (Etan Simon).
In other parts of the storyline, we find Claire (Ludivine Sagnier), who departed Paris with Raoul, Assane’s mother (Naky Sy Savane) and Assane’s closest friend Benjamin (Antoine Gouy). They might reappear if they learn that Assane has been released from prison.
In the police department, there’s a detective named Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab), who is an enthusiast of Lupin, and his somewhat skeptical partner, Lieutenant Sofia (Shirine Boutella).
In addition to Babakar (Fargass Assandé), Assane’s father, and the younger versions of Assane, Claire, and their group of friends, there is a possibility they might reappear in flashback scenes.
Later on, there’s an unexpected turn where Hubert Pellegrini (played by Hervé Pierre) ends up in the same jail as Assane. This suggests that he will likely reappear for a third installment. If this character is still involved, it’s possible we’ll see his daughter Juliette (portrayed by Clotilde Hesme) again as well.
What will happen in Lupin season 4?
The shocking revelation about Pellegrini in the closing moments of the third season sets up many opportunities for the show to continue in a fourth season. In the last episode of Lupin’s second adventure, Assane successfully unmasked Pellegrini to the people of Paris, thus clearing his father’s reputation.
It’s plausible that because he apparently has unresolved issues with Assane, their close proximity in the same prison – him being just one door away from Assane’s cell – might serve as a trigger for a daring escape reminiscent of “Shawshank Redemption” style.
If Assane reappears on the outside, we’ll surely get the usual mix of cunning schemes, deceitful ploys, and an array of fresh masks for him to don.
Could we possibly anticipate more such occurrences? Previously, George Kay, the author of ‘Lupin’, has hinted at the potential for a crossover with Sherlock Holmes. In the novels, Lupin and Sherlock do indeed meet, but under an alternate name: Herlock Sholmès.
In all sincerity, we’ve had some open talks about it,” he shared with Radio Times. “I’ve been mulling over some intriguing concepts related to this, and I’m eager to delve deeper into them.
He added: “The Arsène Lupin fanbase, which is evident within the show, would have to lock antlers with the Sherlock Holmes fanbase — you want to take it to a really meta level. Having that kind of level of fun would be really cool, and it’s not something we haven’t discussed.”
Independent of whether Holmes plays a part in the series’ future, the realm of Lupin will undoubtedly continue to grow, much like it does in its original content.
In the books, Lupin often has a crew of helpers, as I’ve learned from Entertainment Weekly. However, in the series he primarily relied on Benjamin, but he’s a man who values companionship. He even hires individuals like Philippe Courbet. It was intriguing to see this dynamic unfold, and I believe it could get even more fascinating if we eventually see a larger cast of characters.
Since he’s the mastermind, he can’t handle everything alone; he needs others. This is not only a necessity but also one of his talents – gathering people around him. It was fascinating to collaborate with this dynamic. I believe this is an admirable trait of Lupin.
For now, we’ll just have to wait for the Netflix head honchos to share the show’s fate with us.
