The first new series connected to the hit show Yellowstone will debut on CBS in early 2026. Called Y: Marshals, it stars Luke Grimes reprising his role as Kayce Dutton. In this modern-day spinoff, Kayce has traded ranch life for a career as a U.S. Marshal, working to uphold the law in Montana.

Grimes appears to be taking inspiration from classic Western stars with his new show. Y: Marshals will be unique among the Yellowstone universe’s expanding lineup, as it’s the only series concentrating on the work of law enforcement, unlike shows like The Madison and The Dutton Ranch which focus on family drama. The initial trailer for Y: Marshals suggests Monica Dutton Long may die, and it looks like Kayce is starting a new chapter. He’s transforming into a classic Western lawman focused on action and gunfights. The trailer shows actor Luke Grimes riding a horse and wearing a U.S. Marshal uniform.

Tate Dutton, Kayce’s son with Monica, will appear in the new series. However, Kayce’s approach to fatherhood might change significantly with his new job, especially considering everything he’s been through. He’s transformed from a dedicated and kind rancher fiercely devoted to his family into a more aggressive and independent law enforcement officer.

Before taking on the role of Raylan Givens, Timothy Olyphant played Seth Bullock in the series Deadwood.
