Luisa Zissman recently criticized tourists who left Dubai and are exaggerating their experiences, suggesting they’re acting as if they’ve been through a war zone. She made the comment after returning to the UK herself.
The 38-year-old star of The Apprentice moved to the UAE in December with two of her three children, including nine-year-old Indigo Esme, along with her husband, Irish millionaire Andrew Collins, and their daughter Clementine.
Last week, despite recent missile and drone attacks, this Dubai-based influencer publicly and strongly supported the UAE government, even calling it the ‘safest country in the world’.
Luisa returned to the UK on Monday and explained to her 712,000 Instagram followers that she’d always intended to be back this week to record her podcast, LuAnna. However, she decided to bring her daughters with her, worried they might not be able to return to Dubai.
After returning to the UK, she posted a video on Instagram Tuesday using the popular ‘bored Cillian Murphy’ meme to express her sympathy for those stranded in Dubai for several days.
People in the UAE are noticing tourists acting as if they’ve just returned from a very difficult or intense experience, based on their interviews.
Earlier today, Luisa shared that she felt like a refugee, having been forced to leave her home. While walking through Chinatown, she also expressed fear about going back to the crime she associated with London.
‘Back in Blighty,’ she told fans. ‘I’m in Chinatown, I’m heading into the Global studios this morning.
I’ve left Dubai and returned home with the kids. I was already scheduled to be back for work, and with the children on their school break, it seemed like the right time to bring them back with me.
She stopped and glanced around, then confessed she was really worried someone would steal her phone.
She described feeling like a refugee, having been forced to leave her home. She then expressed gratitude for the UAE and emphasized how smooth and simple her return trip was.
Leaving Oman was surprisingly straightforward. It only took about 15 minutes to clear the border, and then we flew from Muscat to Heathrow.
I’m back with the Team Luanna crew for the next couple of days and really happy to see everyone. It’s just incredibly cold and gloomy though!
Five days ago Luisa was posting from her Dubai home and assured her followers ‘everything is fine’.
A former contestant on The Apprentice is one of many celebrities who have moved to the UAE in recent years, attracted by its warm climate and lack of taxes.
Reports from the emirate have been varied. While some social media personalities and reality TV stars say they feel safe, others have publicly shared their fear during the recent missile attacks.
Luisa shared in a post on March 4th that she’s planning to come back to the UK for work, but she’s worried about being able to return to Dubai afterward.
To be honest, things seem okay here. The kids finished school a week early. I’m scheduled to return to the UK on Monday for work and I’m hoping that trip can still happen. I’m seeing a lot of planes flying overhead.
I’m concerned that if I return to the UK for work, I might not be able to return to Dubai. Because of this, I’m planning to bring my children with me and visit my parents while I’m there.
She posted a video of herself enjoying time with her dog, letting her followers know she was happy and could hear airplanes flying above.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been watching the situation unfold, and it’s been inspiring to see figures like Luisa really champion Dubai. Following the recent conflicts involving the US, Israel, and Iran, there’s been understandable disruption in the UAE, but people like Luisa are helping to keep a positive vibe going and showcase all the amazing things Dubai still has to offer.
However, after the strikes continued for a second weekend, some influencers and social media personalities began to change their views.
The UAE reports that Iran has launched 238 ballistic missiles towards its territory since the recent attacks by the US and Israel. They state that 221 of these missiles were intercepted, while only two actually hit their intended targets.
However, Iran has also used its ‘suicide drones’ to launch attacks on the Emirates.
A drone strike overnight in two of Dubai’s most luxurious neighborhoods killed one person and caused fires in two high-rise apartment buildings on Saturday.
After an Iranian drone was shot down, pieces of it struck the 88-story 23 Marina tower in Dubai Marina, causing smoke to rise from the building.
A Pakistani driver died when debris from a drone strike on the Azayez Tower, a building in Dubai’s Al Barsha district, fell onto his vehicle. This information came to light after the initial reports.
Dubai International Airport temporarily closed on Saturday after an explosion near the airport, believed to be caused by a drone strike. Passengers had to evacuate planes as a precaution.
