As someone who has spent years navigating the often treacherous waters of the comedy circuit, I can empathize deeply with Lucy Beaumont’s experiences. Her courage to speak out about predatory behavior in the industry is commendable and long overdue. It’s disheartening to learn that such incidents are not isolated but systemic, as she suggests there could be up to 15 offenders.

In uncovered remarks, Lucy Beaumont disclosed that her professional progression was impeded due to harassment by powerful men within the comedy scene.

On Tuesday, it became public knowledge that following their separation, comedian Jon Richardson, who used to be married to Lucy, reached an enormous financial settlement.

In April, Jon transferred a sum of approximately 1.625 million pounds to Lucy, marking the conclusion of their nine-year marriage. For seven years prior, they had co-starred in the mockumentary series “Meet the Richardsons,” eventually accumulating a wealth of around six million pounds.

However, joint business documents disclose that, two months following their separation in June, Jon, aged 41, bought Lucy, also 40, the sum of £1.625 million for her stake in the company they previously managed together.

Upon Lucy leaving the company, her past statements regarding her professional journey have come to light.

Last year the comedian explained how she had suffered ‘quite a few incidences’ early on as she set out in the industry.

And confirming the ‘blacklist’ of alleged offenders, she said there were up to 15 men carrying out the appalling behaviour.

Lucy, said when being asked if anything had held her back: ‘Predatory male behaviour.

In my experience, there have been numerous instances when the typical response would be to reach out to Human Resources, yet that option is unavailable. It seems like this issue permeates every corner of our organization, and it’s a topic that isn’t discussed as openly as it should be.

It saddens me to learn that multiple young female comedians are facing similar issues. For a moment, I assumed it was just a handful of individuals, but now it seems there are more – approximately 10 to 15 when you consider word-of-mouth. Of course, people chat among themselves.

The writer and performer spoke in July 2023 about the issue on The Comedian’s Comedian Podcast.

She added: ‘Comedy has the biggest gossips ever so everybody knows – or if you don’t know the ones I know yet then you will do soon.

‘It attracts such interesting, passionate, raw, edgy, wounded people – but it also attracts predatory men who are really messed up and sexually have been repressed for years. And they get a bit of fame and display these behaviours.

The situation is being concealed, yet both parties involved and the relevant outlets are aware. However, no action appears to be taken to address it.

On several occasions, I’ve found myself yearning to share on Twitter about the individuals we often discuss, although the rules prevent me from doing so directly.

As per the latest financial reports, Lucy and Jon’s business was valued at approximately 4 million pounds last year. The duo continues to hold joint ownership over a detached house worth 1 million pounds in Yorkshire, complete with a swimming pool, as well as a luxury apartment valued similarly in an upscale area of North London.

In April 2015, they got married, being a couple who have a child in common. They revealed their separation in April of this current year, which coincided closely with the premiere of the fifth season of their sitcom, “Meet The Richardsons.

In 2013, they began their romantic relationship, having first crossed paths thanks to mutual friend Roisin Conaty. Over the years, they collaborated on several television series like “Meet The Richardsons.

Approximately four months past, the couple declared through a shared statement: ‘Having been married for nine years, we are announcing that we have parted ways. We mutually and peacefully reached the challenging decision to end our marriage and pursue independent lives.’

2023 witnessed the Richardson family being thrilled as Lucy was nominated for a BAFTA TV Award in the Female Performance in Comedy Programme category.

Initially, the series premiered on the network back in 2020; it was co-written by the featured duo together with Tim Reid, who is known for his work on Peter Kay’s Car Share script.

Lucy has enjoyed a thriving stand-up comedy career, appearing as a guest on multiple talk and game shows such as “Would I Lie to You?”, “Taskmaster”, “The Last Leg” and “Have I Got News For You”.

2021 saw the airing of her co-written comedy series, Hullraisers, on Channel 4, and it was also the year she published her debut book titled “Drinking Custard: Chronicles of a Perplexed Mother.
