As a die-hard fan who has followed Lucy Beaumont’s comedy journey since her early days, I couldn’t be more thrilled to see her back in the spotlight, hosting the BBC New Comedy Awards 2024 final! The Hull-born stand-up’s wit and charm have always left me in stitches, and it’s fantastic to witness her continued success despite the challenges life has thrown her way.

Lucy Beaumont secured her initial significant evening television role following her separation from husband, Jon Richardson.

Originating from Hull, the 41-year-old comedian is set to host the finale of the BBC New Comedy Awards 2024, an event that aims to identify and celebrate the emerging comedy talent in the United Kingdom.

Last April, it came as a surprise to fans when Lucy, the previous winner, revealed that she had separated from her long-time comedy partner, who is 42 years old, following nearly a decade of marriage.

A week ago, she fueled speculations about a potential new romantic partner when photos emerged showing her with sound engineer Martin Wallace as they exited a theatre in North Yorkshire.

In the past, he served as a sound technician for her ex’s 2014 stand-up comedy special titled “Jon Richardson Live: Nidiot.

Lucy’s new TV gig will be a welcome distraction from the fallout to her marriage split.

On November 13 at 10:40 pm, BBC1 will broadcast the final round of the BBC New Comedy Awards. This competition features six rising comedians, chosen from a pool of 1,000 applicants, who strive to win the title by impressing a panel of judges led by Head Judge Babatunde Aléshé, a popular figure from I’m A Celebrity.. Get Me Out of Here! and current star of Taskmaster.

Lucy, who has a child with Jon, expresses her enthusiasm: “I can hardly wait for the BBC New Comedy Awards 2024 – I’ll be the host!

It’s thrilling to recall the beginning of my comedy journey, and I feel privileged to perform alongside emerging talents whose promising start indicates a bright future in this field.

I, a passionate fan, can’t help but exclaim that my friends and I have traversed far and wide, witnessing extraordinary talent at every turn. Among the astounding thirty semi-finalists, we’ve narrowed it down to a select six.

It’s going to be tough to decide who is going to take the crown, but I’m really excited about it.’

The upcoming finale, set at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham, showcases an exceptional act from 2023 NCA champion Joe Kent-Walters, known as Frankie Monroe.

The victor will be granted an opportunity to create and present a personal 30-minute audio pilot, financially compensated for this work, under the guidance of a Comedy Commissioner from the BBC. Additionally, they will receive a trophy and £1,000 in cash as part of the prize.

Furthermore, the champion for this year is scheduled to make a live appearance on BBC during Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day television event in March 2025.

Currently in its 29th edition, the BBC New Comedy Awards have been instrumental in kick-starting the careers of numerous renowned comedians such as Peter Kay, Lee Mack, John Oliver, Russell Howard, Alan Carr, Sarah Millican, Josie Long, Joe Lycett – to name but a few, including Lucy.

Lucy and her former spouse Jon, known as the team captain on Channel 4’s series 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, began dating in 2013 following an introduction through mutual friend Roisin Conaty. They collaborated on several shows together, including Meet The Richardsons, which aired on Dave.

Since declaring their separation, neither party has publicly addressed it directly. Notably, Jon transferred £1.625 million to Lucy, representing her stake in the company where they both held director positions.

For nearly a decade, I’ve been fortunate enough to share a life with an incredible partner, accumulating a substantial fortune along the way. Now, it is with a heavy heart that I announce our decision to part ways after nine rewarding years of marriage.

‘We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.’

Last month, Lucy shared with The Sunday Times that due to legal guidance, she is prohibited from discussing the divorce. However, she mused about the public aspect of her former marriage.

As a die-hard enthusiast, I echo her sentiments: “I have no regrets about the past. However, as we move forward into this new phase, I am strongly committed to maintaining a private sphere in my life.

Lucy mentioned, “At times, I find myself feeling remorseful for discussing matters concerning my daughter, my marriage, as well as my mother and father.

It seems to me that a combination of appreciation and obligation was stirring within me. I felt appreciative for being offered the work and for the opportunity to be interviewed. Additionally, there was a sense of having to give up and divulge much in order to secure it all.

Lucy also spoke to OK! Magazine, but was once again remained coy on the break-up.

She mentioned: ‘Though others may assume I should discuss it since our relationship was highly visible to all, I choose not to, not due to any lingering hostility.’

In our conversation, we concurred that although it may appear unusual to others not discussing our marriages or personal matters, we prefer to keep such topics private between us.
