Lucy Beaumont is set to return to TV for first time since her split from husband Jon Richardson
As I read through this article, I can’t help but feel a sense of empathy for Lucy and Jon, a couple who once shared their lives so openly with the world, only to find themselves navigating the complexities of divorce. Their story is a poignant reminder that even the most seemingly solid relationships can crumble under the weight of life’s unpredictable turns.
Lucy Beaumont will make her comeback on TV later this month, marking her first appearance since parting ways with her husband, Jon Richardson.
In April, after being married for nine years, Lucy and Jon, parents of eight-year-old Elsie, surprised their followers by declaring that they were separating.
On Tuesday, October 22nd, at 9 pm, the comedy performance by Lucy Beaumont titled “Lucy Beaumont: Live from The Royal Court Theatre” is set to broadcast on Sky Comedy.
A synopsis for the special reads: ‘A stand-up performance by the comedian, featuring off-beat stories, unusual anecdotes and bizarre journeys through modern-day womanhood.’
This development follows Lucy making a joke about her former husband Jon seemingly vanishing in her recent comedy act, and sharing that her parents have decided to part ways.
Last week, I launched the autumn segment of my live stand-up tour at the London Palladium, and I unexpectedly mentioned my ex-partner and comedy colleague, who I’ve been instructed by lawyers not to discuss due to recent events. Yet, there we were, in the spotlight, a testament to our shared past.
However, as stated by Lucy, the two appear to maintain a friendly relationship. During her performance, her former partner Jon, at 42 years old, was incorporated into one of her jokes. Later, Lucy acknowledged that this joke might have been better omitted following their separation.
Speaking from personal experience, as a lifestyle guide, I’ve endeavored to nurture my daughter, Lucy, with a strong spiritual foundation, mirroring the upbringing that shaped me. One practical way I do this is by demonstrating rituals such as burning sage in our living room. This simple act helps us clear out any lingering negative energy, fostering a peaceful and harmonious environment for us both.
‘And she said “don’t mummy, daddy will disappear”.’
Following hearty chuckles from the discerning spectators, Lucy playfully commented: ‘Initially, when I penned it as a jest, it didn’t seem so, but now it does.’
‘I keep meaning to take it out, but we’re still friends – there’s nothing to worry about.’
Later on in the show, Lucy also made the revelation her parents’ marriage is also over.
She said: ‘My daughter’s had this amazing effect on my mum and dad, they don’t really spend much time together – they’re separating – but now they have weekends together.’
Lucy and Jon, who serves as the team captain on Channel 4’s series “8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown,” began their relationship in 2013 after they were introduced by mutual friend Roisin Conaty. Since then, they have collaborated on numerous shows together, including “Meet The Richardsons” on Dave.
In the spirit of transparency, I’ve chosen not to discuss our separation publicly, following the announcement that led to Jon transferring £1.625 million to me for my stake in the company where we held mutual directorships.
After nearly a decade of being married, they chose to inform the public that their union has come to an end. This wealthy couple, with an estimated net worth of £6 million, made this announcement in a joint statement.
‘We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.’
Last week, Lucy shared with The Sunday Times that she’s been instructed by her lawyers not to discuss the divorce. However, she did express thoughts about the public aspect of their marital life.
She mentioned that she has no regrets about the past, but at the same time, she is intent on maintaining a private aspect of her life during the upcoming phase.
Lucy mentioned, “At times, I can’t help but feel a sense of guilt for discussing topics like my daughter, my marriage, my mom, and my dad.
‘Partially, I found myself feeling appreciative. This appreciation stemmed from both receiving the job assignments and having the opportunity for an interview. Additionally, it made me feel as though I needed to make sacrifices and share my resources generously.’
Lucy also spoke to OK! Magazine, but was once again remained coy on the break-up.
She said: ‘People might think I should talk about it because we were so public and everyone knew us as a couple, but I won’t, and not because there’s any animosity.
‘We understood each other that although it may seem odd to others if they don’t hear about it, we prefer to keep our discussions centered around our marriage and personal lives private.’
After their separation, enthusiasts have discovered old footage indicating that the marriage may have been in trouble. One clip features Lucy expressing concern that she might have made a wrong decision by marrying Jon when she criticized his strong-willed nature and mentioned that she occasionally doubts her choice.
Asked if Lucy had any worries about her ex-husband on his show Ultimate Worrier, she replied: ‘I’ve got a lot. Sometimes I worry that I’ve made a mistake.’
Lucy went on to describe how Jon can’t admit when he’s wrong or has made a mistake.
She mentioned, “I find it particularly challenging in a marriage when one partner refuses to acknowledge their mistakes.
‘[They] can’t say sorry I’ve made a mistake.’
In a previously shared video, Lucy humorously expressed doubt that her marriage with Jon would endure for a lifetime, which was two years prior to when they publicly revealed their separation.
In a previously unseen episode of 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown from 2022, Lucy openly expressed her thoughts about their marriage, leading Jon to inquire, “Are we separating?
In the footage from the show, host Jimmy Carr asked Lucy: ‘What made you decide to settle?’
In response, the comedian said, “Doesn’t it seem like that for life? Isn’t there a song titled ‘Just Passing Through’ to express a brief span, a temporary purpose, or an entire lifetime?
In the course of one’s life, you may encounter people who are familiar spirits, fresh spirits, challenging individuals. Prior to knowing Jon, I hadn’t tasted an avocado before. Our lives have been beautiful together. We’ve welcomed a child into our family.
‘Who knows what will happen in the future.’
A stunned Jon asked: ‘Are you breaking up now?’ before putting his head in his hands.
Lucy replied: ‘We have a lovely daughter so it has been worth it.’
