With Kathleen Kennedy leaving Lucasfilm, people are now talking about what’s next for the Star Wars franchise. As she steps down after many years as president, two new leaders have been appointed at the studio.
Lucasfilm will be led by two executives after Kathleen Kennedy
After almost 14 years, Kathleen Kennedy is leaving her position as president of Lucasfilm. Dave Filoni will take over as President and Chief Creative Officer, and Lynwen Brennan will join him as Co-President. Both Filoni and Brennan will report to Alan Bergman, Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment.
Kathleen Kennedy will still be a producer on upcoming Lucasfilm movies and shows, including The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) and Star Wars: Starfighter (2027). She shared that it’s been a wonderful experience working with the talented people at Lucasfilm for over ten years, and she looks forward to continuing to create films and TV series with both familiar and new filmmakers.
I’ve been a huge fan of Dave Filoni ever since he started at Lucasfilm back in 2005. It was amazing seeing how closely he worked with George Lucas to bring The Clone Wars to life. And then he went on to help create some of my favorite shows, like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Rebels – all of which have been recognized with Emmy nominations! He recently shared how Kathy Kennedy has been instrumental in expanding the Star Wars universe with characters like Rey and Grogu, and it’s clear she’s overseen the biggest on-screen storytelling expansion we’ve ever seen.
Lynwen Brennan began her career at Industrial Light & Magic in 1999, becoming president in 2009. She was named General Manager by Lucasfilm in 2015 and, in 2024, was promoted to President and General Manager. Brennan expressed strong support for Dave’s creative direction for the future of the studio, saying, “I have unwavering faith in Dave’s creative vision for the next chapter in this storied studio’s legacy.”
While leading Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy oversaw massive successes like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One, both of which earned over $1 billion worldwide. She also guided the development of popular series including The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka. Bob Iger praised her leadership, vision, and careful management of such a well-known studio and franchise.
