In a galaxy far, far away, and throughout the many stories of the Jedi battling the Empire, the Star Wars saga has given us countless memorable characters. From powerful, villainous figures to the beloved heroes who fight against them, this franchise is brimming with legends. A significant reason for the success of these characters is the talented actors who portray them.
It’s hard to imagine Han Solo without Harrison Ford’s captivating portrayal. Similarly, Princess Leia was brought to life by Carrie Fisher’s powerful performance, and Mark Hammill’s sincere depiction of Luke Skywalker truly shone within the franchise. The actors are just as crucial to creating memorable characters as the script itself.
However, a very well-known and important actor from the franchise won’t be returning for a future project, and this might have surprised many Star Wars fans.
Star Wars recasts Ahsoka in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past
As a huge Star Wars fan, I was really excited to see Ahsoka Tano make a surprise return! She’s popped up in the new Disney Plus miniseries LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past, which is a sequel to the 2024 series LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy. It’s pretty cool to see her as a LEGO Brickheadz character for the first time! But, interestingly, Rosario Dawson isn’t voicing Ahsoka in this one – it’s the first time in years someone else is taking on the role.
Rather, the show has brought in Ashley Eckstein to voice the character, which is a bit of a unique casting choice since Eckstein actually played the role before Mary Elizabeth Winstead did. She was the original voice of Ahsoka Tano when the character first appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars back in 2008, and she’s been strongly linked to the part ever since. It’s not just that one performance either-the actress has voiced Ahsoka in several projects since then.

Ashley Eckstein has also provided the voice for Ahsoka Tano in the sequel series Star Wars Rebels, the webseries Star Wars Forces of Destiny, and the Clone Wars video games Lightsaber Duels and Republic Heroes (along with LEGO Star Wars III and Disney Infinity 3.0). While Rosario Dawson is widely seen as the main Ahsoka in live-action appearances, Eckstein was actually the first to portray the character in a live-action film, with her voice featured in the 2019 movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Dawson first played the character in an episode of The Mandalorian in 2020 and has continued in the role ever since. Eckstein has only voiced the character once more, in the 2022 series Tales of the Jedi. Now, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past marks her comeback to the part, potentially indicating she’ll keep playing the character in future projects beyond live-action appearances.
The good news is that we are getting the best of both worlds as Dawson’s return is imminent.
Rosario Dawson will be back in Ahsoka season 2
Even though some fans were surprised to learn that Rosario Dawson won’t be voicing Ahsoka Tano in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past, she will return to play the live-action Ahsoka Tano in Ahsoka season 2. This popular Star Wars character has become a regular in live-action shows, especially those available on Disney Plus.
Dawson initially gained recognition as the well-liked Jedi Knight in season 2 of The Mandalorian. She later made a guest appearance in an episode of the spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett and then starred in her own show. Ahsoka proved to be very popular on Disney Plus, so it’s no surprise that fans are eagerly awaiting the second season.

She could also mark the end of the current Star Wars era on Disney Plus. The next season of her show is currently the last confirmed Star Wars series planned for the streaming service. Disney and Lucasfilm are now focusing on bringing the story back to theaters, with two movies scheduled to be released within the next two years. This represents a shift in strategy for the franchise.
First up is The Mandalorian and Grogu, featuring Pedro Pascal as the popular Din Djarin 9along with his adorable green companion). While The Mandalorian was a big hit for Disney Plus, the decision to move back to making movies is mainly because these shows are costly to create for streaming. The expectation is that these films will generate significant revenue at the box office.
I’m really excited that Dave Filoni is planning a movie set in the Mando-Verse! It sounds like it’ll be the big conclusion to everything – The Mandalorian and all the shows connected to it. I’m especially hoping to see Rosario Dawson back as Ahsoka, and it sounds like we might also get appearances from the actors in The Book of Boba Fett and Skeleton Crew. It’s going to be amazing!
Despite everything happening, there’s some great news: we’ll be seeing Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano again!
Ahsoka season 2 streams on Disney Plus in 2026.
