LOVEISENOUGH and USM Present a Contemplative Journey in ‘THE ROOM YOU CARRY’

Designer Loren Daye, of LOVEISENOUGH studio, has teamed up with USM Modular Furniture to create an engaging installation called *THE ROOM YOU CARRY*. Opening this week at the USM showroom in SoHo, the project reimagines the space as a portable living area, inspired by Daye’s experience in designing hotels, shops, and homes. Visitors will be able to step inside and experience a uniquely personal and interactive environment that embodies Daye’s love of travel and her thoughtful approach to design.

This installation reimagines USM’s modular system as a building material, going beyond its typical use as furniture. A tent-like structure with a canvas roof serves as a focal point, complemented by screens and cabinets made of raw steel, glass, and chrome, which create both privacy and define spaces. Hand-carved wooden details, attached magnetically, and the use of reclaimed wood beams add warmth and a connection to the Catskills region, where the LOVEISENOUGH studio is located, with personal objects from the artist further grounding the exhibit in that landscape.

Daye teamed up with Matt Hutchinson from PATH to create 3D models showcasing surprising uses of materials, blending soft and hard textures. The installation’s calming mood is enhanced by sound and video recordings captured by wildlife photographer Jamie Kennard, making visitors feel the contrast between busy city life and peaceful nature. Daye asks, “How much freedom can you find within strict limits?”-a question that embodies the installation’s simple, thoughtful design.

Jon Thorson, CEO and Brand Experience Director at USM North America, highlighted the importance of this project, noting it’s one of the most ambitious and creatively detailed USM USA has ever done. He also mentioned it’s the first time in a long time they’ve worked with an interior designer on a project like this.

On display until the end of 2025, *THE ROOM YOU CARRY* showcases how interior design changes over time and encourages visitors to think about how design impacts our lives, whether we live in the country or the city.
