Loved Dan Stevens in Cuckoo? Check out these 3 other horror movies he stars in

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for horror movies, I must say that the recent release of Tilman Singer’s “Cuckoo” has sent chills down my spine and piqued my interest. The German-American production, starring the versatile Dan Stevens, promises an enthralling tale of mystery and terror that resonates with his past performances in the genre.

Following the triumph of “Longlegs”, Neon has unveiled another horror movie gracing the silver screen, igniting curiosity among fans of the genre. This latest offering is titled “Cuckoo“, a joint German-American production helmed by director Tilman Singer. The cast includes Hunter Schafer from “Euphoria”. In “Cuckoo“, we follow a teenager who, after her mother’s demise, is compelled to move in with her dad and his family. The plot thickens as her father and stepmother are determined to construct a new hotel at a resort owned by Herr König in the German Alps, portrayed brilliantly by Dan Stevens.

If you appreciate Stevens’ work, you’re aware that “Cuckoo” isn’t his first foray into horror. And if his performance in the latest film left you captivated, we’ve got three more titles that are sure to keep you engaged right from the opening scene!

Apostle

The movie “Apostle,” released in 2018 on Netflix, is a folk horror gem that hasn’t received the recognition it deserves. Set in 1905, a previous missionary finds out his sister has been abducted and embarks on a journey to a secluded island to challenge the cult responsible. Disguised among them, he interacts with the community members while attempting to rescue his sister, uncovering hidden truths that were meant to stay concealed. In addition to Stevens, “Apostle” stars Michael Sheen, Lucy Boynton, Mark Lewis Jones, Paul Higgins, Kristine Froseth, and Elen Rhys. Gareth Evans is the writer and director of this film.

The Rental

In a different wording: Dave Franco makes his directorial debut in the 2020 horror film titled The Rental. The story revolves around four couples who decide to rent a beach house for a weekend getaway. However, things take an unexpected turn as it becomes clear that there are lies hidden among the groups, causing growing apprehension. As they gradually come to terms with being under surveillance, the tension escalates. With each character harboring their own secrets and objectives, they struggle to stay alive amidst both external dangers and internal conflicts. Charlie, portrayed by Stevens, is one of the vacationers alongside Alison Brie, Jeremy Allen White, and Sheila Vand.

Abigail

The latest film on the list is “Abigail,” which premiered in cinemas this year. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, this horror-comedy offers an exhilarating and unique experience as it chronicles a botched heist. When a gang of kidnappers snatch the child of a powerful and affluent crime lord, their aim is to amass vast wealth without being caught. However, they underestimate the danger posed by the girl, Abigail, who happens to be a vampire. The film garnered praise for Stevens’ performance as one of the criminals, with Melissa Barrera, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand, Will Catlett, Alisha Weir, and the late Angus Cloud also featuring in key roles.

As for Cuckoo, you can catch Stevens in the newly-released films right now in select theaters.
