Love Island's Mitch Taylor fights back tears as he reveals he wanted to end his life after being 'cancelled' over 'false allegations'

As a humble observer of human nature, it is fascinating to delve into the intricate world of Mitch, a man who has seemingly transformed from a boiler fitter to a social media sensation overnight. His latest video addresses a flurry of accusations that have left many scratching their heads, wondering if the jovial plumber we once knew has morphed into a wealthy, yet troubled, celebrity.

Love Island’s Mitch Taylor has candidly shared that he contemplated taking his own life following the backlash and accusations made against him, which he believes were unfounded.

Speaking candidly about his inner struggles, the 28-year-old reality TV personality confessed that he contemplated taking his own life following accusations from last year that he mistreated a homeless individual and made offensive, homophobic remarks.

At a London party, where he was with Zachariah Noble, another Love Island star, allegations were brought forth by a social media influencer, leading to their expulsion from the event. These accusations, which he firmly rejected.

It was claimed that Mitch handed cash to a homeless individual, after being asked, and reportedly used offensive language towards the LGBTQ+ community before boasting about their personal achievements.

And while he acknowledged that he was the one the TikTok star was referring to, Mitch heartbreakingly revealed the devastating affect the allegations had on his mental health, as he confessed on Tom’s Talks podcast: ‘I’ll be honest, I wanted to kill myself.’

Struggling to hold back emotions, Mitch went on to confess: ‘To be straightforward, I’ve rarely discussed this matter before. Exactly one year ago, an unjust accusation led to my cancellation, and I must admit that I had not given much thought to mental health issues prior to this incident.

Until a similar incident occurred to me about a year ago, I had the perception that I was invulnerable, as if I could simply accept and move along with whatever life presented. However, an influencer publicly accused me of something false last year, and one of their friends, another significant influencer, supported this untrue claim.

In an emotionally charged conversation, Mitch asserted that his superiors failed to support him after the allegations, and that he suffered financial losses due to the ensuing uproar.

He went on: ‘I had no-one. Thankfully I’ve got my friends and a loving family but I lost so much money.

‘I had so much work lined up and thought I was comfortable. Everything was cancelled.’

The ex-gas engineer, known from Love Island’s 10th season, elaborated on how the incident impacted him by stating, “I was effectively boycotted. It left me unable to eat or rest. Friends had to force me out of the house.

‘This memory will live in me until the day I die – I was trying to throw up because of anxiety.

I received numerous images of my home and my loved ones, accompanied by threats like “I intend to harm you due to your words and actions, but those accusations were unfounded.

‘I remember thinking, why did I go on this TV show?’

Continuing his explanation of how the accusations affected him, Mitch stated, ‘For the first time, I faced such dark thoughts in my mind. It was a devastating blow. I contemplated suicide, truly believing that I couldn’t carry on anymore.’

Moving forward, he shared that he had been given a reprieve, which he referred to as a lifeline. In his own words, “Those were challenging times, but ITV came to my rescue. Approximately two months after that, I received a call from them expressing interest in me for All Stars.

In response to the accusations made in September 2023, Mitch chose to speak openly about the matter in a video he posted on Instagram.

Speaking to the camera, he said: ‘I’m making this statement because over the weekend there were a lot of accusations against me and Zach.

I’d like to begin by extending an apology to Zach, as the accusations have no connection to him whatsoever. Regrettably, he seems to have been drawn unintentionally into this situation, as it primarily revolves around my own actions.

“I’d like to discuss each accusation separately, lay them all to rest, and present my perspective. The first allegation is about the statement ‘we are the most famous people here,’ which was indeed true in that moment. I made that comment to Zach as a light-hearted jibe, but it seems others have misconstrued it. In hindsight, I acknowledge that it wasn’t particularly amusing; I merely intended to create a bit of humor and camaraderie.

He further explained: ‘Regarding the next allegation, it’s like tossing coins at a homeless individual, which is absolutely untrue. I didn’t throw money; instead, I chose to generously give some money to a homeless person. However, this act of kindness has been distorted and portrayed as something malicious. In reality, I was merely attempting to perform a kind gesture.’

At the recent gathering, I must confess I was quite jubilant and vocal. This experience, however, feels like a stark contrast for me. From working on installing boilers to attending such an upscale event, there’s a notable shift. I recognize that this exuberance might appear unprofessional, and I fully understand the concerns associated with it.

If anyone noticed me at the recent event, I’d like to offer my sincere apologies. I find myself struggling in such social settings as they are unfamiliar territory for me, but I’m making a conscious effort to adapt to this new way of life.

Regarding the severe claims of homophobia against him, Mitch commented: “Of all the allegations, this one might be the most significant about being perceived as homophobic. During a conversation with an influencer at the event, I said, ‘I found you attractive when you were straight’.

It’s clear to me now that my words might have been perceived as insensitive, and I apologize if they seemed homophobic. The truth is, I often struggle when it comes to choosing the right words, especially when meeting someone new whom I admire.

I’d like to express my sincere apologies. In situations like that, I often struggle to find the right words. I was aiming to be as considerate as possible towards that individual, but unfortunately, I may have come across in a way that was not intended.

‘I wanted to wrap this up by saying, I truly believe you are entitled to the truth. I must be straightforward about what transpired, and I sincerely apologize for the delay in delivering my statements. Over the weekend, I needed to step away from social media.’

‘The amount of hate, death threats and horrible comments I’ve been getting I just couldn’t deal with it, so I just had to take some time away. Hopefully that has cleared things up and moving forward I just want you to know I’m not homophobic, I never have been, I’m just bad with my words sometimes and I hoped you can understand.’
