Love Island’s Maya Jama reveals surprising new career move alongside huge A-list co-star as she gushes ‘this is a dream come true’

On Instagram on Wednesday, Maya Jama disclosed that she’s taken an unexpected step in her professional journey.

As a die-hard fan, here I am, eagerly sharing that the vibrant 30-year-old TV personality, who’s about to reignite our screens with her popular ITV dating show Love Island, has decided to take a break from hosting duties. Instead, she’s diving headfirst into the world of acting!

Maya shared that she’s feeling excited, since she has been cast in the highly popular Netflix show “The Gentlemen,” produced by Guy Ritchie, for its second season and is currently filming.

On her Instagram Story, the ITV star informed her 3.2 million followers about an exciting update she had been hinting at, writing: “As promised, I’ve been working on secret projects.

In her second post, she exclaimed: “It’s not even close to accurate to say I was excited. I landed a small part in one of my beloved TV shows instead!

Working with such outstanding and successful actors that I respect, under fantastic production conditions and with the iconic director Guy Ritchie truly feels like a dream come true. I’m incredibly thankful for this chance, and I can hardly wait for everyone to get acquainted with my character – she’s terrific!

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m thrilled to share that the production of an engaging series set in the UK is progressing smoothly, with Theo James and Kaya Scodelario portraying captivating characters at the helm of a drug dynasty.

According to reports, Maya is set to portray the stylish spouse of a questionable ally tied to Eddie Horniman, Theo’s main character.

Filming has commenced at the magnificent Badminton House, located in Gloucestershire, which serves as a stand-in for the fictional Halstead Manor in the series we’re producing.

In addition to Vinnie Jones, the British gangster series now includes a new cast member – Hugh Bonneville, who is famously known for his role in Downton Abbey.

Along with Benjamin Clementine from Dune, Benedetta Porcaroli from The Leopard, Michele Morrone from Another Simple Favour, Sergio Castellito from Conclave, Amra Mallassi from Dune: Part Two, and Tyler Conti are also part of the cast.

The original cast members returning are Daniel Ings, Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson, Vinnie (possibly a shortened version of Vincent), Jasmine Blackborow, Michael Vu, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear, Pearce Quigley, and Giancarlo Esposito.

In regards to the upcoming series, Guy mentioned that this part will deliberately broaden its scope, not just in terms of locations (from the English countryside to the Italian lakes), but also in terms of themes.

Eddie (James) and Susie (Scodelario) must deal with a complex and unpredictable empire that’s under threat from mysterious newcomers on all sides. As their situation grows more dangerous, the risks become greater, and the balance of power becomes shaky.

Earlier this year, Maya playfully hinted at something to her followers by sharing a Netflix script online and then posting a mysterious image with Kaya Scodelario, known for playing the character Susie Glass (a mob boss) in The Gentlemen series.

Previously, she subtly suggested she could have attended gatherings with the streamer based on sharing an image of a Netflix-branded mug on her social platforms. However, the exact location or timing wasn’t explicitly stated.

TopMob has contacted Maya Jama’s representatives for comment.

In January, it was disclosed that the host of BBC Three’s Glow Up had secretly been trying out for an aspired character part, suggesting her desire to portray something dramatically distinct from her bright and vivacious television image.

She expressed her aspiration by saying, “I’d prefer playing a character who is quite unlike myself in a villainous role. This way, I can demonstrate my acting skills more effectively.

‘And then people would be like, wow, two different people.’

Last year, the movie “The Gentlemen” debuted on Netflix and immediately gained popularity due to its compelling narrative, sharp wit in dialogues, and the distinctive gangster style that is characteristic of director Guy Ritchie.

The story revolves around Eddie Horniman, a former military officer, who unexpectedly acquires his ancestral property. However, he soon uncovers that this estate is not just any ordinary one; it’s right in the heart of a colossal marijuana operation.

The video quickly gained popularity, amassing a staggering 44 million views within a month, making it one of the most successful releases on the platform this year.

Maya will likely handle both filming commitments along with her current responsibilities on Love Island, since the upcoming summer season starts shortly in Majorca.

Since 2023, she’s been hosting Love Island, a role she assumed from Laura Whitmore. She gained popularity before this on an ITV show less known, titled Don’t Hate the Playaz.

Since then, the ex-girlfriend of rapper Stormzy has flourished in her career and transitioned from collaborating with fast-fashion brand, Pretty Little Thing, to appearing on the cover of Vogue and teaming up with Dolce & Gabbana.

Eventually, it became inevitable that she would be recruited by Netflix. Upon reaching her thirty years, the ex-radio host expressed: “Now that I’ve been incredibly fortunate enough to accomplish all my childhood aspirations before turning 30, I feel it’s time for me to establish new objectives.

The celebrity, freshly named as a judge on The Masked Singer, admitted that she harbors aspirations for retirement and starting a family, yet emphasized that such a move should only occur with an appropriate partner.
