Love Island’s Maura Higgins lookalike Megan Clarke reveals what she REALLY thinks about being compared to show icon ahead of new series
Megan Clarke, a contestant on Love Island, shares her true feelings regarding comparisons drawn between her and the show’s beloved figure, Maura Higgins, as the new season approaches.
The 24-year-old musical theater student, due to join the villa in this coming year, expresses her appreciation for being likened to the 34-year-old Irish beauty.
In a new interview with The Sun, Megan said: ‘I love Maura – what a compliment. She’s an icon.
‘If someone compares me to the Queen of Ireland, it’s a compliment I gladly accept. Thanks for the comparison!’
Born in Dublin, Megan, set to enter the villa on a Monday, has been likened to Maura due to her distinct Irish accent and captivating dark-haired charm.

Additionally, she showed empathy towards Maura, who gained popularity on Love Island half a decade back, after the controversy surrounding her kiss with Danny Jones, a married band member from McFly, during a BRIT Awards party this year.
Megan simply said: ‘We’ve all had a drunken kiss.’
Megan openly admitted that she feels much like the contemporary character, Bridget Jones. She shared that she has been single for almost three years now, having parted ways with her college sweetheart whose infidelities were numerous during their turbulent relationship.
During my very first year of college, there was this rollercoaster ride with someone special – let’s call him “him”. Yet, as much as I cherish our moments together, it saddens me to admit that our bond didn’t part ways amicably, according to Megan.
When questioned about their partnership, she disclosed that he frequently strayed from the relationship, and amazingly, other women remained oblivious.
She also shared how her ex-boyfriend is now blocked and she hasn’t spoken to him since they split.
Speaking candidly about her romantic experiences, Megan characterized the past two years as a “nightmare” filled with difficulty, citing a lack of dedication from potential partners and an abundance of unsuitable individuals she has encountered.
To my utter delight, it appears the lads in that villa are in for a treat! Megan herself has revealed she’s stacked her suitcase with an array of bikinis and alluring ensembles, destined for the Hideaway – the villa’s secret haven where couples can steal moments alone together.

To clarify, Megan’s mother has clearly asked her to maintain a family-friendly atmosphere, and Megan emphasizes that she intends to abide by those guidelines.
At the moment, Megan is employed in a telesales role. She mentioned that no romantic relationships have blossomed within the office setting for her, but she does acknowledge indulging in a bit of flirting occasionally to maintain a lively work environment – though she clarified that nothing substantial has ever materialized from these instances.
Earlier this week, Love Island officially announced the complete roster of participants set to appear on the upcoming season.
On June 9th, the popular dating show on ITV2 will resume, promising a typical blend of romantic entanglements, secret liaisons in sleeping quarters, and complex separations as participants embark on their journey to the island.
2023’s contestants feature a doppelganger of Declan Rice, a woman who breathes fire, and a lady resembling Maura Higgins, with Maya resuming her role as host following her January 2023 entry into the widely-loved dating show.
2022 marks the tenth anniversary for this series, and to commemorate the occasion, it’s set to offer even more surprises and unexpected events than previously seen.
Over two billion streams on ITVX, this popular series has welcomed more than 300 contestants, including personalities like Olivia Attwood, Dani Dyer, Chris Hughes, and Molly-Mae Hague, through its villa doors throughout the years.
It was recently disclosed that this season’s Love Island participants may encounter their former partners within the villa.

In an interview with The Sun, ITV’s Mike Spencer-Hayter remarked, “You know what I usually say? Once the cast members are freed up, that’s when former partners start surfacing, which leads to shocking revelations.
As a dedicated follower, I can assure you that they’ll be taking the journey, but let me tell you, we’ve got an arsenal ready – some truly spectacular surprises waiting in the wings. Among them, there are individuals who have managed to fly under the radar, making their presence all the more intriguing.
The selection crew has been diligently searching for talent for some time, attending numerous events and scouting various locations. In my opinion, they’ve executed their task exceptionally well. There are still some outstanding talents yet to arrive.
After Mike shared with The Mail, the following week of the new season is expected to feature a significant event, as they plan to break the norms by rewriting the rule book in an attempt to add more excitement to the popular series.
Previously, the audience experienced an unexpected twist as popular TOWIE personality Joey Essex, aged 34, made an appearance in the villa, with reactions ranging from positive to negative among fans.
When inquired about potentially welcoming another ex-reality TV personality or famous figure as a competitor this year, Mike hinted that there would be an unexpected twist instead.
He mentioned that there won’t be any past participants from Love Island joining this season, but he hinted at a significant event happening during the first week. It won’t be another celebrity from a reality show like Joey Essex.
We’ve prepared an exciting first week ahead. There won’t be a celebrity involved, but something entirely novel instead. Moreover, the method of coupling among the islanders this year has undergone a change.
Instead of relying solely on audience appreciation, let’s ensure the show remains thrilling. Let’s challenge conventions a bit by breaking free from traditional rules now and then.
Love Island is set to air on June 9 over on ITV2 and ITVX.
