Love Island’s Danny Williams: From Borderline Crackhead to Sobriety Champion
On Instagram, Danny Williams from Love Island confessed that he struggled with excessive drinking and drug use, describing himself as someone who was almost addicted to these substances. He revealed this personal struggle in a post shared on Thursday.
In 2019, the reality TV personality, aged 21 at the time, found himself in a complex romantic situation involving both Yewande Biala and Arabella Chi while participating in the show that year.
Danny rejoiced in reaching his two-year sobriety milestone, detailing his long-term struggle in an honest social media post.
He mentioned that he has now been sober for two full years, which might be news to some since he struggled with substance abuse issues for an extended period in the past.
Essentially, I turned to alcohol and drugs as a means of coping rather than confronting my inner struggles head-on, since I wasn’t psychologically prepared to tackle them directly.
‘It was easier to pretend than to face my truths.’

He stated: “Rather than persistently dodging discomfort, I deliberately confront it daily, enhancing myself as a person, partner, son, and future father in the process.
‘I know that it’s ‘socially acceptable’ to drink.
‘And I’m not here to say that anyone else needs to cut it out of their life completely either.
Avoiding discomfort just because it’s unpleasant in the short term can swiftly erode your self-esteem and leave you feeling utterly inadequate in life.
Danny, who is now in a relationship with influencer Beckie Hughes, is a fitness coach in Dubai.
2023 saw Danny expressing his thoughts before the launch of the new series, encouraging the audience of the reality TV program to exhibit understanding towards the contestants.
Addressing the BBC, he commented: ‘Having lived through such an event, I realize now just how extensively one can be influenced without fully recognizing it.’
In my professional opinion, I believe it’s crucial for our audience to understand that what they see on the screen might not always be a true reflection of reality. By being transparent about this, viewers can enjoy the show without questioning its authenticity or assuming everything is as it appears on the surface.

Danny went on to say, “I hadn’t given much thought to mental health until my stint on Love Island.
After witnessing its peaks and valleys, it became glaringly apparent to me and necessitated immediate action.
Through that experience, I’ve found myself becoming deeply interested and enthusiastic about it.
After leaving the show in 2019, Danny encountered online harassment known as trolling. He openly acknowledged then that he had been subjected to racially charged death threats.
Speaking on FUBAR Radio on Danny confessed he got trolled horrifically every day.
He mentioned: “I’ve received death threats, experienced racism, and been warned that individuals would visit my home with the intention of causing harm to my family. It’s as bad as one could possibly imagine, and I’ve endured it all. And unfortunately, it continues to happen every day.
While everyone has the right to their perspectives, such behavior is unacceptable and truly abhorrent.
Danny mentioned that it significantly impacted his family, leading them to seek help from law enforcement: “I refuse to dwell in guilt. What irritates me most is seeing my family distressed.
‘Especially when I was in the villa, they had a tough time dealing with all the abuse.’
